Pros and Cons of bonded retainers?

I'm am getting my braces removed next month and the ortho assist said that I would be getting a bonded retainer and told me how I still won't be able to bite into things like now and also how flossing would be difficult. She also said I will be getting "fitted" and have to come back to pick up my retainer so I'm assuming I'll be getting a bonded one and a removeable one. She seemed kind of unsure so I will definitely get more details from my orthodontist when I go back.

I only have braces on my top teeth I wanted my gap closed, had a retainer when I was younger to close the gap stopped wearing it and the gap came back after years of not wearing.

Anyway I've been hearing horror stories of having a bonded retainer like issues with flossing, food getting trapped and hygiene issues. This of course freaks me out not to mention the thought of something being permanent on my teeth.

    Please share your experience..........TIA

I personally do not have any issues with my bonded retainer.

Yes, it remains necessary to use a self-threading floss, but only for those front teeth, so it's not a big deal. And, whilst I am a little careful with anything really hard, I eat - and bite into - whatever I choose.

You do need to keep a wary eye on the bonded retainer, in case it should ever come loose (risking not only tooth movement, but also decay if it is left that way long enough) and you do need to be a little more diligent about brushing with it, but again it's not a big deal at all.

Given your teeth have shown a tendency for that gap to relapse, I'd tend to think that this bonded retainer sounds like the best bet for keeping teh gap closed in the longer term.
I am not a dental professional.

As it says on the main Bracesreview.com page, always consult a qualified orthodontist, dentist, or medical professional with questions you may have.

Zoso.......... Thanks so much for responding since posting my question I've been all over the internet and have come across some positive posts as well so I am a little more at ease now. I guess all the trouble with the up keep is worth maintaining that perfect smile.

    Again thank you!

Just to add to what Zoso has said:

I've had no trouble with my bonded retainers. The minimal additional maintenance required is certainly worth it.

I didn't have any restrictions placed on biting into particular foods. Apples and corn on the cob are OK for me.
