big gaps after braces due to extractions on ottom row please help!

    Hi,
I had two teeth extracted from my bottom row it's my forth tooth over on both sides, then i had the braces put on while my overbite was being fixed with a appliance. I already had my wisdom teeth removed 5 years before that, so i didn't have to worry about those coming in, and ruining my "fixed work" but first i would like to tell you guys the wonderful experience that i had, so i go in to get two teeth extracted then weeks later get the appliance on, then they ask me what kind of braces would i want and i told them, so they take the info down put it in my file, and tell me to come back in a few months to put the braces on. I come back in a few months the "orthodontist" starts on the braces, and i really wished i could have watched him but there was no mirror, and it really sucked because HE PUT THE WRONG BRACES ON!! i asked for the all clear ones and he put the ugly wire ones on. i was so pissed when i took a look at them! and i wouldn't have known what my braces were going to look like because they tried to send me on my way with out looking at then, so i asked them can i please see them, and the lady was like oh sure, and when i seen them i was pissed, and i told her these are the wrong braces!! and then she looked through my file like i was lying and was like oh yeah they are, and the "orthodontist" was like but you can't tell because there at the bottom only. They didn't do the top ones that day thank god! All they said was that they had to leave them on foe 3 months, and he couldn't take them off, and put the "right" ones on. What sucks was i already signed a contract with them before they started anything, so i couldn't say give me my freakin money back I'm going some where else. All he had to do was look at my file and see what kind of braces that i wanted. Well anyways sorry, but i had a bad experience with this"orthodontist" my question is after my braces were taken off a year and a half ago i was left with two gaping holes from my extractions, he said that my "wisdom teeth" that i didn't have because i had them removed 5 years before that would close up my big gaps and that the retainer would help with that. I then told him that i didn't have my wisdom teeth, and as i said that to him i really wanted to punch him in the face really hard. Here i am just spent 7 thousand dollars and now I'm left with two big gaps STILL! the retainer didn't close crap. I also moved away so it's not like i can go back to him to have him fix it wouldn't want to either cuz he's an idiot. what can i do to fix my gaps with out spending a lot of money and with outt getting implants? Thank you

Wow ... I don't blame you for being upset! I think you need to vent your anger and get over the 'violent' part before looking to consult with other ortho's. The reason ... if you present too negatively, other ortho's may not want to consult with you.

It's a shame your ortho didn't try to sort your bracket issues out at the beginning. Ceramic brackets are often not used on the lower teeth, especially if a person has an overbite and/or deepbite ... but your ortho didn't say that, so your case must have been ok for them.

Why did you allow your ortho to remove your brackets before you felt your treatment was finished? Also how has your retainer wear gone over the past 18 months?

If you go to another ortho it will cost you to have your gaps closed, but you'd still be best to consult with a few ortho's to find out what would be best for you and the cost. Your original ortho should fix your problems for little or no cost, but it sounds like this isn't an option.

Good luck with getting this sorted!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Hi, I know i have to calm down, but thinking of all the money i spent upsets me, plus there was more stuff that upset me. The reason why i didn't say anything to him about my braces being removed is because first of all i had no idea they were being taken off that day he did it then when he started taking them off..i was like wow already..u see i had no over or under bite any more and my teeth were straight all i had were the big gaps and he said that my wisdom teeth that i no longer had would close them, then when i told him that they were removed, he said that the retainer would fix it. I've been wearing the retainer everyday for a year and a half and the gaps are still big. So was i suppose to get different retainers as my teeth shift? thank u for your reply

You're right about the retainers, they're not to move your teeth, but to retain them in the desired position.

Your original ortho should not be allowed to get away without finishing your work properly, or at least giving you an acceptable answer as to why this is as far as your treatment with brackets was to go.

Good luck finding how to calm down and then move forward to sort your treatment out. Take care!

Yes, your ortho should have made sure the gaps were closed before even taking the braces off as to were the braces could have closed the gaps. When he took off the braces, how would you describe your bite? I'm just curious as to why he removed your braces before the gaps were closed. Btw, hope your previous ortho will compensate you for his half done job.
