So when I put my retainer in it feels somewhat tight on my upper left central incisor for about ten minutes - before I had braces in this tooth was overlapping the other central incisor on a slight angle.
I was told I should be okay with just wearing my retainer at night when I was given it - which was 10 days ago. Am I right in thinking I might need to extend wear into the early evening?
Consult with your ortho.. sometimes if a retainer is too tight it can cause a tooth to move out of position.... you will know when it is too tight.. it is really painful and hard to get the retainer in/out.
I got my retainers yesterday (made by Invisalign), and they sure did hurt yesterday! My teeth are still a bit tender today, and I am having better luck leaving them in most of the time. The retainers are more rigid, so it makes sense that they are keeping my "wanting to wander" teeth honest.
The teeth require some time to settle after treatment, so it is not unusual to need to wear them longer than just 8-12 hours daily for a time.
Definitely talk to your ortho about any issues like this. Good luck!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
