What should I expect and is there anything special I should do before going to my appointment? I am super ready for these to be off. Will the puffiness in my gums go down? Since I was told the metal irritates the gums.

It's pretty easy. the brackets pop right off and then they remove the bonding...
I would make an appointment with your dentist for a cleaning next week or so....
Make sure you wear those retainers religiously!!

After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Congratulations on getting paroled, lol!
Just like it was previously stated... make sure to wear your retainers and keep those teeth looking and feeling healthy.
Some of my friends have told me that I will be in such awe with my new teeth that I will keep running my tongue across them just because of the 'new feeling'
