They're coming off!!!

So, I went to my last appointment with much anticipation as my ortho had told me that this would be the appointment where I would get my debonding date. I couldn't help thinking he'd probably just forget or he would tell me something else would need tweaking which would take months. There was probably not much fear of either of those as the moment I walked into his surgery my smile was so wide I could chew my own ears and I just about managed to calmy remind him of his promise. Sure enough, after a prod and poke (ahem) he announced 'six more weeks and your'e done'. Moulds were taken for my bonded retainer (he only did the top ones so I presume I won't be having them on bottom too) and the 17th November was booked for debonding!

They were 'installed' on the 17th June 2009 so it will be 17 months to the day that they will come off. I was told 18-24 months treatment time so it just goes to show that early graduation is possible. I just about managed to refrain from snogging him goodbye in my elation and saved my hyperventilation attack til I got to the car.

I still have the implant to go to fill the gap the braces have created and that treatment process begins in December and can take as long as three months before the crown goes on so I won't feel totally complete until then. Still, i'm on the final stretch and fingers crossed it has all been worth it. I'll keep you posted with pics. Thanks guys for being on the end of my internet connection keeping me reassured that i'm not the only one doing this crazy thing at my age.

horray!!! They're coming off!! I'm so excited for you! Seems like everyone around me is getting their braces off but me. I can't wait until I can post this very same thing. Congrats!!
