Help!!!
Hello everyone.
I had fixed braces for 18 months and in May 2010 I had them removed. Loved the results. My orthodontist advised me to wear retainers (essix clear) for 3 months full time and I did.
Then I had an appointment and he said that from that day I should wear the retainers everynight.
The problem was that I went on a holiday for about one month and a half, and forgot my retainers at home. I did not wear my retainairs for almost two months. Now they are loose on top I can dislocate it with my tongue, but the lower one fits perfectly. Plus, on top I had two extractions to correct my teeth position, and I feel that these are opening a little bit.
What can I do?
Keep using these retainers, and hope they will settle and fit properly as initially after a few days of usage?
or
make an order for a new retainer?
Your advice is much appreciated, please help me I amn scared that my teeth will move drastically.
Thanks
ps: I haved moved to another city, therefore it will be difficult for me to go and see the orthodontist who initiated my treatment.

if the retainers do still fit almost just wear them for a couple of days and they should force your teeth back into the perfect position, if not get down the dentist for the new one coz if they carry on moving the dentist will only be able to fix them again by putting a brace back on.
hope this helps x

Retainer wear
Ledira,
You may want to see my post last night about the secret of retainers. In the meantime, wear the upper retainer all of the time for the next few months. This will give you the best chance of the teeth moving back into place without further treatment if the essix retainer covers all of the upper teeth and not just the front 6 teeth.
You are more likely to have teeth want to go back toward their original position if you had extractions, so retainer wear will be more important. It takes a minimum of 6 months for the ligaments that hold teeth to the bone to reorient more permanently. If the upper retainer is loose, make sure you are seating it all the way because loose usually means the teeth are not moving. A tighter retainer usually means the teeth are trying to shift. Good luck. drd

Thank you for your responses! I will check the post. Plus, I am going to use the retainers and if I do not see changes I will go and see an orthodontist
