    Quick Question - Help!

I don't see the dental problems section anywhere so I figure I'll ask here.

Tomorrow morning I'm getting a few teeth polished because they have surface cracks and feel uncomfortable. Although the dentist is nice and it's a better place than the others I've been to, I am terrified about one thing. Do they have to use the dam to polish teeth? Last time I had that I had a three minute long panic attack. After that they just went on without it. Is it that important to use the dam or can I just ask for them to not use it? All of the teeth I'm getting done are in the front (top teeth, literally in a row of four) with the exception of one at the back which is optional. (He said he would polish it because the shape of the tooth was bothering me although there's nothing wrong with it.)
This quick question has gotten somewhat long. Thanks for reading, help me!

    dam?

A high speed drill with attachments ... that don't hurt ... is the best way to do this job.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

When I had my teeth polished just over a week ago, they did not use a dam (it wasn't even mentioned).

Thanks. I didn't get to read this before I went but I asked about the dam anyways. They said it's not for polishing, mostly just for cavities and root canals.
In the event that I have a cavity they probably wouldn't use the dam regardless because they know how anxious I get.
