So I've been wearing my retainers but...

As of now it seems like my upper far back right molar (top right side 12 yr molar to be exact I think) has shifted in a strange direction. This seems to be pretty recent too. I'm thinking this relates to the fact that I think I've been feeling a wisdom tooth eruption on that side and there is no room for it to erupt into the gum (and I'm only 15 years old! though I do turn 16 soon).

I did hear from my ortho (and dentist too I think) that I would have to get EVERY wisdom tooth pulled once they came in because my jaw can only hold the teeth I have. It seems like the top ones won't be able to come in at all without screwing up braces work.

But my dad says if this is true (he has a very hard time believing that it might be the wisdom teeth) he does not want me to get them pulled because it is a waste of money. Would it be a waste? He also says the X-rays I've lately been getting at the dentist are a total waste (I've just NOW figured out they've been tracking the progress of the wisdom teeth because I think my dentist is planning on pulling them himself as soon as he feasibly can).

SouthernGirl I recommend you ask your Dad to visit your dentist with you so that the progress of your wisdom teeth can be discussed.

If your jaws are too small for your wisdom teeth, then you will need to have them extracted.

    Good luck visiting your dentist.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

I don't know that I would want a dentist pulling my wisdom teeth out. I had mine removed by an oral surgeon, because they were fully out, and starting to hit my back teeth. If there's some cutting, sawing, or whatever you should get a surgeon.

As far as you dad, have your dentist meet him and educate him. I can understand not wanting to spend the money, but without insurance it's probably $1500 to remove wisdom teeth (with anesthesia) or $3000-5000 for braces in the future + removing impacted wisdom teeth.

    So don't wait.

If I'm right, my dentist is also an oral surgeon, but I'm not sure at the moment.
I don't know, we'll probably get a comment about it the next time I go to the dentist.
