    Do Hawleys work well?

I had one on my bottom arch until losing it a short while ago. Thinking about whether to go for the Essix of Hawley now. What I'm concerned about is that the Hawley may not work as well, since the wire is pretty much adjustable. Prior to losing it, I realized that the wire had moved out a bit, and my two front teeth were starting to shift. I pushed the wire back and it seemed to help guide the teeth back. But I was wondering if Hawleys are all that effective at maintaining the positions of your teeth.

Made properly the hawley should work as well as any other type of retainer. The essix type (clear aligner) is now the preferred aligner due to it covering more of the teeth, but if it's not looked after it can also change slightly.

Good luck getting your new retainers.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
