Retainer after 2 years bad to put in?

I got my braces taken off about one and a half to 2 years ago. They gave me a plastic like clear retainer that had the imprint of my teeth and top of my mouth (kind of like invisaline braces) to put on for 6 months all the time, and after only wear it at night. Being younger, ignorant, and hard headed (hearing of people never wearing their retainers and their teath never go back) I refused to wear it, nice mistake. Now my teeth have slightly gone back to the way they were. I put in my retainer last night and have been wearing it ever since. I woke up this morning and took it out to brush my teeth and noticed a little blood in the retainer and i spit out a little blood, but after I spit there was no more bleeding. Today, my teeth hurt like hell and my gums are swollen, not horribly but noticeably with my tongue.

I do not have enough money for braces again and thought that this would fix my problem but im trying to figure out if its worth the pain. Should i bare through it and see if my teeth go back to the fitting of my retainer or should I say screw the retainer and deal with it until I some day have the money to get braces put on again?

Please don't force your teeth to move. There is considerable training that goes into understanding the best way to move teeth without causing permanent damage to the roots of teeth and the gums. Forcing teeth to move more than they should or against the pressure of other teeth, root re-absorption may occur, which could relate to your teeth being at risk of falling out.

Maybe your best option would be to return to your ortho (or any ortho) and explain what's happened. Also explain you can't afford braces at this time, but find out what your options are.

I'm aware of people who've had retainers made to keep there teeth from progressing into a worse situation. This means that if you choose to have treatment in the future, you may not need to have as much, as you would if you didn't prevent further relapse.

Good luck with talking to an ortho or three!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
