    bonded retainer

    hi all
i have just finished my time in braces but the thing is i have just moved home and its too far to visit my old ortho
thing is i have found a new ortho and she seems really good but she said it would be better to have a bonded retainer on my bottom teeth
i have an essix retainer at the mo and am rather sick of it
would it be better to have a bonded retainer rather than essix retainer
    many thanx

Best to follow the advice of the ortho. You will still need to wear a removable retainer at night, but the bonded retainer will hlep to keep your front lowers in their current position 24 hours a day.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Bet you adjust quickly! Your lucky lower teeth ... as long as you keep a check on that bonding, they should remain where they are for as long as the bonded retainer does!

    thanks sunny
well its been two days on my teeth and im fine with it being there but the thing is its causing my tounge a lot of discomfort
the wire itself is ok its just the bonding it seems to be rather rough and has made my tounge sore is this normal or should i call the ortho and see what they say
feeling like i may have made a mistake by going for the bonded retainer rather that had a traditional hawley retainer like i have for my top teeth at least i can take that out if it bothers me
hope all is ok with your traetment see that you have had braces for quite some time think that could be a world record lol hope there is light at the end of the tunnel for you soon

Hiya! Don't worry, I have bonded on both top and bottom and I wouldn't be without them. I love the peace of mind that I get with them and I only need to wear my Essix retainers every 2-3 nights because the them. Perhaps you could try some wax until the discomfort eases off, bear with it, things will get easier. Good luck.
