    Retention Period for retainers

    Hi guys.... To our members who finished the treatment Congratulations! I will be one of you guys soon (hopefully ) .... "retainers for life" ... How long do I need to keep my retainers, I mean when do I need to change it??? Can I use my retainer for a couple of years without replacing it???

    As long as your retainer is working, keep it. We have some patients who have the same retainer for many years and other's who have to pay for new ones within the first or second year. Often this is due to the way they're cleaned. For example the water needs to be cold (or room temperature) and they should not have anything abrasive used on them. We recommend water and liquid soap only ... with a very soft toothbrush.

    After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
