Unhappy dentist thickened my invisalign retainers.

Hi, I've had braces for about 3 years. Just 4 months ago, I got my braces off & gotten my retainers. 1 month ago, my upper retainers cracked, because while I was asleep, I grind my teeth. I got new retainers and are thicker than the ones before, so it wont crack it again. With these retainers, my teeth separated and has gaps between all my front teeth, and my teeth somehow rotated in a different direction which makes more gaps. I'm just wondering that if you thicken the invisalign, would it separate my teeth? Because on any regular invisalign retainers, its molded to the exact shape your teeth should be aligned; and if adding more thickness to your retainers, like in between the tooth part (where the gums are in between each tooth)- wouldn't that make gaps because its thicker with the plastic? Please help):

Please contact your ortho and speak to him about this.

Essix (clear aligner) retainers are tougher and made to cope with longer wear. Hopefully if your ortho strengthened this, the lab would have made sure it was done to the outside and not the inside, as the inside should be a replica of your finished alignment.

    Good luck getting this sorted!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Okay, thankyou! They think I'm just making it up, just so I can get new retainers without a cost. But thank you again

I just want to add more about my situation.. I went back to the dentist and told them about my gaps, and they said my teeth are fine and that theres no gaps, but there is. It seems like they're blind. But they gave me free new retainers (wired one), and these new retainers dont help at all.. They told me that this is the last time they'll give me retainers for free. Should I go back again and tell them about thickening the inner part of my retainers and that its making gaps & also the wired ones isnt helping at all, or should I just try to find a more professional dentist that would take my concerns more seriously?

Definitely go back again and show them what you see. If they can't see what you're talking about, maybe you're imagining it, but if you're still unsure ... then go to someone else and pay to have a consult.

    Good luck!

I am so sorry! Do this now!

options are limited, i have the same case of gaps coming and going but thats another story!
Have ur wired retainers tightened and make sure before u go that u wear them for atleast 1 week to settle them down, my ortho wont give me a free retainer even if he made it bad and even when he breaks it himself while fitting!

Are you serious? That sounds like terrible customer service to me. I would be demanding a refund if my orthodontist behaved like that. If he breaks it whilst fitting it it wasn't fit for purpose. I don't know how you paid, but if it was on a credit card you could certainly complain.

    Good luck!
