How did your ortho explain what will happen to your teeth over the rest of your life?

Teeth move all our life and it's been shown by your ortho treatment how easily your teeth can move once ... so why wouldn't they continue to move unless they're retained?
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Chewing is one of the main reasons teeth move ... so getting you to chew in order to keep your teeth from moving is strange.

Have you considered asking another ortho if you need retainers?

    Good luck!

braceguy, please start a new thread when you want to discuss something about yourself. It's consider poor forum behaviour to 'hijack' someone elses thread.

Umm. I've heard from this forum and many others.. that if you don't wear your retainer for the rest of your life.. your teeth shift and then you're stuck getting braces AGAIN down the line.

I'm not willing to go through this process all over AGAIN.. so I'm happy to wear the retainers when I'm all done!

When I took my braces off, my ortho told me to wear retainers all day long (except when I eat or drink)for a year and then at night for another 6 months. Then he told me that's it and that I didn't need to wear them again. This was 6 years ago and till this day, I'm not completely happy with the way my teeth look. Please make sure that your're making the best decision, and try to get other opinions from other orthodontists if you can. Better safe than sorry!

My ortho said that I only needed to wear my retainers for one year. That was ten years ago. I'm wearing invisalign now to correct all the shifting. And my teeth shifted A LOT in 10 years. Please, for your own sake, get a second opinion or ask your ortho for retainers. Unless you'd like to wear braces again at some point in your life.

This thread (and especially the post quoted below) surely has to be a joke?

    Sounds very odd to me.
