Talking Wearing retainers everyday, all day.

I just got my braces taken off yesterday. I was given a retainer and told to wear everyday for 3 months. Then after that everynight.
I'm finding it very difficult to wear the top retainer during the day while at work. I really can't talk with it in.
I'm so glad I didn't go with invisigln.
Do you think if I just wear at night that it would be effective?

Thank you for you input !

I'd be going with your ortho's instructions. If you find the retainer uncomfortable, you might like to inquire if it can be adjusted.

I would definitely wear it as your ortho instructed. I'd rather talk uncomfortably for 3 months than have a setback after years of orthodontic work! I agree with coconut, maybe they can adjust it for you?

I'd give it a bit more time and see if you get used to it. It took me a few days to get used to mine. Definitely wear as instructed or you may end up wasting all that time and money on braces by relapsing. If after a few days it is still uncomfortable, go and see your ortho about adjusting it. Sometimes, a horse shoe palette will make life easier on you--that's where the retainer is cut back in the shape of a, well, horse shoe. So not all of the palette is covered, just around the necks of the teeth.

I am sure you will get used to it very soon. Follow your ortho's advice so everything will turn out perfectly right.

It takes time to get used to. My only advice is to try to open your mouth wider when you talk to avoid the tongue hitting your retainer.

I say just tough it out for three months. It will totally be worth it!!

I'm going to have to wear them 24/7 when I get my braces off in a few months and I'm for sure not looking forward to it I'm more worried about not being able to snack often with them in!
Bonded retainers fitted upper and lower & braces removed at 19 months 2 weeks.

    Braces were:

    In-Ovation C on the top
    Damon on the bottom
