    Hawley retainers

Hi all, I may be getting Hawley retainers when I finish treatment. I've heard that Hawley retainers can be used to make minor tooth movement. Does anyone know how it works? Thanks.

There are a few different ways. Your orthodontist can order springs in the acrylic to affect movement, or by simply "activating" the wire with bends, tightening, etc. Not as common are micro screws embedded in the retainer. Minor tooth movement with hawley retainers is common. Just make sure you wear them as per your ortho's instructions
