I'm nervous about getting my braces off tomorrow...

I have had my braces on for about two and a half years, and my orthodontist wants to take them off tomorrow. I have been worried about this for a while, ever since he mentioned that it was almost time for them to come off - I never really thought they were ready. I think my teeth looked better before they went on. (I had braces before, and my eyeteeth came in and were all crazy.) Long story short, I went through oral surgery to get one of my eye teeth exposed and put a bracket on it. My Orthodontist put the wire on the bracket once it came down far enough and my whole mouth messed up, turning into a ^. I was so insecure about it for about 6 months until it started straightening out, but I still feel it's not ready to come off.

What is your personal opinion? When I get my retainer, will the retainer fix my teeth at all?

I read somewhere that the retainer can be altered to straighten my teeth more.

I feel that if that one tooth would straighten in the front, it would look okay.

Yes, a retainer can be used to help put finishing touches on the case. Personally, I think your smile looks great. I can see how the one tooth is tilted and should be an easy fix--easier if you were still in braces. Talk to your orthodontist about it.

Thank you for your replies. My orthodontist actually decided that they weren't ready to come off today and took off the bottoms, and kept on the top. He said that he wants to take them off on monday. Whatever he did, the majorly tilted tooth is not tilted anymore (within a day? I think he filed it). I should get the top off on Monday and I should be happy with my smile .

You're talking about the left side of your mouth and wanting the tooth to come in closer to your middle teeth on the side closest to the middle tooth?

I totally agree, it looks, to my anyhow, like there is room for improvement. And now your Ortho agrees. Excellent.

Jude, I do not have pictures from when I got my braces on. (My orthodontist does, though. And if he gives them to me, I'll be happy to show them to you)
