How to wear retainers if I grind my teeth

Hello, I got my braces off about 6.5 years ago. I still wear my retainer every night. However I grind my teeth a lot at night time so I decided to get a mouthguard to wear during the night on my top teeth.

    My questions are:
    1. Can the mouth guard act as a retainer?
    2. If I wear my retainer throughout the day for at least 8 hours will my teeth be ok?
    3. Also I have wisdom teeth coming in but i only feel pain when they break through the gums only. One is already completely out. Can these make my teeth crooked as well?

If you have any other advice please feel free to share.

    Thank you in advance.

I would talk to your ortho, especially with wisdom teeth erupting, but...

Yes, the nightguard can act as a retainer. Usually, 6.5 years after treatment, people are instructed to only wear their retainers at night, and sometimes only a few nights a week, but that is really a question for your ortho. Yes, wisdom teeth coming in can really screw up your teeth. It will depend on how they are coming in, if there is room, etc. I highly recommend talking to your orthodontist about these issues.

    Good luck!

thanks for the reply guys. One wisdom tooth is completely out. The only problem is that it is close to the cheek. Last time I went to the dentist (which was during the summer) they took x-rays and acted like my teeth were fine. However, that one wisdom tooth that is now out they told me that in can be an issue in the future since it is hard to clean (since its against the cheek).

My only problem now is that I haven't schedule my dentist appoint yet. They are book up in the meantime and I may not be able to see them until March

Also my bottom retainer is a little loose too, meaning that I can push it out easily with my tongue...
