Hi! I'm new to this site.
I got my Damon 3's on December 18th (a week and a half ago)....and I was impressed how comfortable they are. The first 4-5 days it was very sensitive to eat anything but things are much better now.
My ortho didn't want to put both (tops and bottoms) at the same time. He said that usually traumatizes the person. He also said it's easier to adjust to the new "bite" this way. My bottoms come on Feb 8th.
My question is that i just noticed what appears to be a "nik" in the wire between the two top fron teeth.....my husband says that it's been there all along.... I never noticed it. I guess my question is: do you guys notice the wire different there as though it's "hooking/connecting two wires"? Now because of that I feel like the whole thing is loose?? Am I dreaming??
Of course because of the holidays my ortho is only coming back on the 4th of January but thought I would someone here who has the same system.
Appreciate any help!
Thank you!

Welcoome to this forum Morettina!
Some ortho's like to mark the centre of the archwire with a pen or a piece of metal, to help them centre the archwire when they're putting them in place.
I'm sure the extra piece of metal you can see was there all the time and it sounds exactly like how some of our flexible archwires are. These are the archwires used in early treatment and often they slide too much, so these 'tubes' make it easier to keep an eye on them at adjustment time.
Good luck with your progress!![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
Mine had this same piece, like a little bump in the wire mine was actuallly bent like a u shape there not sure if this is what yours is though, may be like sunny said because at my first adjustment they crimped some peices around certain teeth to keep the wire from sliding.
Thanx guys!
I feel better! I guess if the wire was broken or loose I would feel it right?
I go for my "comfort" appt on January 26th and the bottoms come on on the 8th of Feb.
My ortho also said that he is attending a Damon conference in February. He suspects that they will come out with the new generation of clear damons! He said if that's the case he will change mine free of charge....I believe they're already out in the US but not in Canada.
I hope so. I am having trouble adjusting with my appearance. I'm in sales and am feeling really self-conscious.
I look to the future and how good they'll look but still can't help but feel embarassed. They're coming off next December (possibly October if he suspects root resorption on one of my teeth). I will be doing new panorex x-rays in October and if he sees that the root is in jeopardy he will remove the braces immediately as he doesn't want to risk losing the tooth in the future. At that point (in October) my teeth will be straight anyways so I will have accomplished my goal.
Thanks for your support guys!
