Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and this is my first postI"m 30 years old and I just got My Damon braces on this morning. I have clear brackets on the top and bottom with the metal brackets on the side. I don't think you can get clear in your entire mouth but I may be wrong. The inside of my mouth is really taking a beating but oh well, It'll be worth it in the end. I plan to update this thread with a pic very soon so I'll keep you posted.
I do have a question though, is it normal that when I bite down I touch the top of the bottom row brackets.? It makes me feel like my teeth in the back aren't touching but they actually are when I look at them in the mirror. I do have an overbite. I'm worried I may bite down too hard and knock the lower brackets off. What do you think about this? Anybody else ever have this problem?
Hi Bey
I will be getting the damon clear on the top and regular damon on the bottom in a few weeks. How bad is it as far as hurting the inside of your mouth? Have you tried the wax stuff, does it work? Which hurts more on the inside, the top or the bottom? Looking forward to pics,
Thanks

I dont think you will have a problem, as your ortho probably would of noticed when putting them on and asking you to bite...
Great your treatment has started Bey!
Take good care of the inside of your mouth by using wax generously on the brackets that are rubbing. The wax is designed to allow the inside of your mouth toughen without causing sores. It's best to leave the wax on at all times except when you're brushing, until the rubbing has gone. Rinsing with warm salt water should speed up the healing process and help soothe your mouth. Rinse as often as you can while your mouth is sore ... 5+ times a day.
Be careful if your teeth are biting on the ceramic brackets, as this is never a good thing due to the hardness factor of the ceramic. Many ortho's don't put ceramic on the lowers if there's a risk of this happening and other's will put 'molar buildup' on the a molar on each side, to prevent the teeth hitting the brackets. If this bothers you, or you suspect your teeth are at risk of being damaged on the brackets, please give your ortho a call.
Good luck with adjusting to having braces and finding that everything will soon feel great!![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
Hi lauralea,
they really hurt the inside of my mouth yesterday but today it's much better and I haven't tried using the wax the ortho gave me but if it becomes painful again I definitely will. In my case the bottom brackets are what's doing the most damage to the inside of my mouth. The top doesn't really bother me. My only other gripe is that my teeth are more sensitive today and are a little sore so I'm hoping that will go away in the next few days. Next week I'm having 1 tooth extracted so I also have that to look forward to. Lol.
I really like the look of the clear on the top and bottom. Very few people noticed I got braces until they were super close and talking to me or if I smiled really big. My lab mate even told me he thought braces were sexy, lol. I don't know about sexy but hey I'll take that as a compliment
Good luck with yours lauralea!
Congrats! I'm getting the Damon braces clear on the top and metal on the bottom also. I'm due to start treatment this Thursday and I'm excited. So how long did they tell you for treatment. I have an overbite and they are extracting two upper bicuspids to fix my overbite and I should be done with treatment within 24 months.
Hi NewSmile,
I just had tooth 26 extracted today so I am well on my way through treatment. I also had my loose bracket replaced today so today was a busy day! My estimated treatment time is 14 months. Below is my treatment plan for you to compare. Good luck!
-Comprehensive therapy
-Full Fixed ortho appliances
-Utilize Damon System
-Plan to extract tooth 26
-Level and align arches
-Correct rotations
-Utilize interproximal reduction to gain arch length
-Elastics are necessary
-Detail and Coordinate Arches
-Adjust midlines
-Close spaces
-Maintain correction with lungual bond from 22 to 27
-Maintain maxillary correction with Hawley Retainer
Bey,
Wow! Girl, I wasn't given my treatment plan yet. I guess I get it when I go in on Thursday. If, he doesn't give it to me I surely will be asking for it because, yours is so detailed. The day of my consultation he took tons of x-rays and went over with the consultant some information (measurements and such) and then they took the molds. I'm due to go in on Thursday so I guess I will get the full plan at that time. I'm expected to be in treatment for 24 months with the two upper bicuspids removed and to allow for correction of my overbite.
