    Didnt have molds done...?

I had my Damons put on last week and my consult prior to bonding the braces consisted of just x-rays and an examination by the ortho. I didn't have any molds or impressions taken. Is that normal? When I asked one of the techs about this she said that sometimes they are not done until the end or at some other point during the treatment. What do you guys think about this?

some ortho's look at your teeth and don't need to study the molds in order to come up with a game plan. Other ortho's are really in routine with attention to detail and don't skip any steps or break routine. I wouldn't worry about it, but personally I would like to do the molds and have a copy of them when the treatment is done.. to compare..

It's interesting that your ortho chose not to do moulds, as this is a great way to observe the physical changes. X-rays are probably more important, as these are used to check the health of your teeth and their roots. Where I work these are also used to measure gaps and help with the planning of treatment. We also use the moulds for this, but I'm sure it can be done without moulds by some people.

    Good luck with your treatment!

My ortho the first time had molds done, then he sent a detailed treatment plan prior to bonding (approx 6 weeks), this time my ortho had my impressions done the day I had braces put on. The office sends them to this company who then digitalize them, so that he can go though the entire treatment plan on the computer. So basicaly, my next visit, I should be able to go in, and see a digital image of what my teeth will look like at the end of treatment. I have another 4 weeks until my 1st adjustment, man it feels like forever! hehehe When I had braced my first time, I had an adjustment every 4-5 weeks! hehehehe

My daughter's records included pano & ceph xrays,p ictures of her teeth, face, front & profile plus molds of upper and lower teeth. 2 weeks later we came back for treatment plan and got upper braces and 3 weeks after she got her lower braces. They did change her treatment plan the last time which turned out better in the end. Maybe your ortho doesn't use molds. Did you ask them if they were planning on making molds.
    Good luck.

My orthodontist' office doesn't use impressions (except for Invisalign). I was able to do my consult with a panoramic 3D x-ray (amazing...wish I could post the scan here), and lots of pictures.

Yep, I had the panoramic 3D x-ray taken too. Ok, maybe if they do that then molds aren't necessary. Thanks everyone for your input!
