    Loose hook?

I got Damon braces put on on Feb 2nd. I have hooks placed in three different spots of my mouth for elastic ties. Yesterday evening I noticed that one of the hooks was bothering my cheek. I didn't think much of it but this morning I noticed that the hook wiggles ever so slightly, and there seems to be the tiniest end of wire sticking out from the bottom of the bracket. The bracket itself isn't loose at all and the wire that is sticking out seems to be the opposite end of the hook (it is not the archwire). It wiggles just barely, but enough to cause concern as my other hooks don't wiggle at all. Is there anything I can do?

Call your ortho in the am and let them know.
With the Damon brackets, the hooks are put into the bracket as an attachment, unlike some brackets that come made with them, (According to my research).
If its bothing you, im thinking it might be benefical to put wax over top, at least to keep things in position and prevent it from bothering you more.
    Hope this helps!

Thank you so much!! I was trying to figure out how hooks are put in Damon braces. Since you said they are put in as an attachment, do you suppose it would be relatively easy to fix? As the bracket itself is completely fixed, as it should be.

Jules if it's an attachment or a fixed hook, it will be easy to fix. Most important to let your ortho know what you think has happened and then the person with the expertise will decide if you need to have something done to fix it now or at your next appointment.

We use a mix of fixed hooks and 'made' hooks. Both work well, although the attachment ones do have a tendancy to cause more problems, especially if they're required to provide quite a bit of pressure. We correct these the patients next appointments unless there is a problem with it causing damage to the cheeks.

    Good luck!

I have damon brackets and at my last appointment my ortho attached two hooks onto two brackets on my lower teeth. They look like little wires that stick out underneath the bracket with a small bobble on the end. Both have a small amount of movement which I haven't worried about and they seem to be doing their job holding the elastic band in place. I don't think it is anything to worry about. I hope that helps?
