Hello. I'm new to the forum and new to braces! I have the new Damon Clears on the front 6 on the top. My ortho told me they are plastic brackets-I'm the first in his office to get them as he said they are the newest Damons. After getting home and adjusted I have a few questions. Can I put wax on them since they are plastic? How about staining-can I eat spaghetti sauce, coffee, etc without them discoloring?
The new damon brackets are ceramic and very hard and they don't stain.
Wax can definitely be used on all brackets type and is advisable to help your mouth toughen without causing sores.
Good luck with your treatment!

wow..its intersting what your ortho is telling you...I have clears on the top also and I can assure you they are not plastic. And can move teeth just as well as other metal brackets. They are REALLY tough! I always chew on pens (nasty habit of mine) and sometimes when I miss, i bite down on the pen with the brackets, normally that would be enough to snap them off and debond them, however I have yet to have a single problem with this.
Good luck with all, and why not try going to the manufacture website for damon clears...google search it

Most people find when they get braces, aligners or removable appliances, they have dry mouth issues. Often this is caused by how our body reacts to having these foreign objects in our mouth.
Keep well hydrated and use lip balm on your lips. Hopefully your mouth will improve quickly as it adjusts to your 'foreign objects'.
Good luck with your treatment!![]()

Yesterday i got my bottom braces on.I don't feel any pain just a little pressure and a weird feeling as my mouth is full. It's really uncomfortable and painful when eating but i keep on trying.
I'm wondering if it's easy to brake my braces.I am afraid that if i chew a little harder my braces will brake. Is it possible?
Brackets are very tough and they're not easy to break. Chewing is important for gum health, so we need to do heaps of it.
Make sure you put wax on any brackets that are rubbing the inside of your mouth, as sores will make your mouth feel miserable and the new skin that heals these sores has to begin toughening all over again. With wax the skin will toughen without the need for the discomfort of sores.
Warm salt rinses done 5+ times a day when your mouth is sore, is soothing and healing.
I also had the 'full' feeling, it lasted a few weeks after my lower brackets were put on. Luckily it passes and everything improves.
Good luck!![]()

I just got Damons too. I was wondering if anyone has had a dry mouth issue. I feel like I am always thirsty and need some water. It is helpful because I am staying hydrated, but I am wondering what causes this?
I just got mine on and I didn't realize how much water I've been drinking it's crazy! I'm always thirsty!
Mostly the 'dry' is due to the way your body reacts to 'fighting' these foreign bodies that have been put in your mouth. Your body will adjust, but it's important to keep well hydrated as it helps your mouth to cope with all the gear that comes and goes in their.
Good luck!

So I've had my clear plastic brackets for a little over a month. Just went for my first appointment yesterday. The ortho was impressed by how well my teeth are aligning already. Says it is just as good-if not better then he would expect with the regular Damons.
Heard that two other patients in his office have followed in my footsteps with the plastic brackets and one of them has been back twice due to breakage. Not sure what she ate-I've been on vacation and eaten things on the DO NOT EAT list and have made out just fine.
Ceb they're not plastic they're ceramic. Plastic brackets were trialled many years ago and found not to hold the archwire properly and therefore the teeth were not aligned properly. The ceramic brackets are hard and don't stain like the plastic brackets did.
Also brackets don't move teeth, it's the skill of your ortho working with the archwires that do that. It's great that your ortho is so happy with your progrss so far.
I think many patients are changing to the ceramic brackets due to how nice they look. One of our regular members has just changed to the radiance brackets and they'd have to be one of the nicest looking brackets available.
Brackets can come off teeth for many reasons and what they're made of is not a reason. It's to do with the bonding, the way they're bonded, or maybe how the teeth and archwire are coming into contact. Also in a few cases what (or how) a person eats may affect this bonding.
We don't have a 'do not eat list' with our adult patients, instead we recommend common sense.
Good luck with your great progress continuing.

So glad to hear your teeth are progressing so well! It's also nice to get validation from your ortho for any progress you may see, yourself.
I understand how you may keep referring to your brackets as plastic, instead of ceramic. I'm the person Sunny referred to who just got the Radiance brackets, and whenever I look at them (all the time), they really do look plastic, to me, because they're so clear; especially the ones with the hooks / ties on them. But they really are ceramic. If not, that would be some really EXPENSIVE plastic. LOL! Some of us put more emphasis on the look than others, and I guess I am one of them. It would be useless of me to try to deny it...
I've also eaten pretty much everything on the "no-no" list my ortho gave me, too. But like Sunny said, I think that for adults, my ortho pretty much expects the adult patients to use common sense. That said, I'm still not going anywhere near candy apples, whole apples, or corn on the cob. Yesterday, I microwaved a french bread pizza, and even after cutting it up, I still could not eat it; it was just too hard. Anything that puts too much pressure on your teeth is just not worth breaking a bracket.
Good luck to ya!

I have a trick to eating corn on the cob, just take a knife, turn the cob vertical and cut the corn off the cob. It actually tastes better and you dont worry about getting cob-crap in your braces. Same thing with apples, just cut it and you can eat the apple (typically skin and all) with your back molars. Its important to eat things the same, I actually had corn today at work, and when I went to go get the corn on the cob people were like, 'how you gonna eat that with braces? i didnt think you could..." well simple just cut it.
Dont change what you eat, just how you eat it.
