I am scheduled to get the damon q braces put on soon have a few questions.
Also I am keen to have the top clear but the orthodontist I will be using charges and extra $900 to get a ceramic bracket put on the front 6 teeth. She also mentioned that she would not get as much possitive expansion for my crossbite compared to if I had all damons. Is it really worth the effort for 6 clear brackets and is the damon q really noticable?
Also what is the difference between damon q and damon 3 braces?
Q's are stainless steel and look the same as any brand of metal brackets.
It's the archwires, not the brackets that will move your teeth in your jaw bone to sort out your cross bite.
Good luck!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
So why does the ortho suggest that she would prefer to use all damons rather than getting the top teeth ceramic? Im just wondering if its really worth an extra $900 make them less noticable.
Davo you need to ask the ortho this question and if this person says it's because of the brackets, you then need to consider why they've made that answer. Sometimes it's because a particular company is sponsering the ortho, or they're getting some kind of 'kick back' for pushing their product, or maybe inexperience, or lack of knowledge (which would be a huge concern), or maybe some other reason.
Just remember brackets don't move teeth ... they can't. Think about the affect of just having brackets bonded to your teeth ... your teeth won't do a thing. Add an archwire and the skill of your ortho and you'll soon find your teeth are moving and things are happening.
The decision as to what you want visible in your mouth is yours. Good luck!

Yeah im not sure why she would prefer so go with all metal. Im considering getting one more opinion from another ortho that uses a large variety of treatment options. The only thing that puts me off is they charge $160 for the initial consult which is not cheap. This ortho also told me that he stopped using damon q and went back to the mx as they have had problems with them. Maybe they are telling me this so I go with them and not the other. They also use the Damon 3 (or damon clear which adds to the cost) for the visible front teeth which attracts me as they are less noticable. I have a felling they may be cost a fair bit more though but i wont know untill I see them.
My daughter got the Damon clears for no additional charge. She's glad she got the clear and would have loved clear on all her teeth but she's find with metal elsewhere. Our ortho didn't say anything about having problems moving teeth with the clear. So do not what would be the issue there. Good luck with your decision and either way you'll get your teeth straight.
mine were no additional charge.

The reason the ortho prefers all damons is that in my case she wants to attempt expanding my top teeth as much as possible and when the ortho uses ceramic she uses the innovationC on all the top teeth which will not get the amount of expansion that damon q can. If I did go with the innovationC on top she would want to use the expander which is not what I want to do. As this is the case I will be going with the damon q on all teeth and it saves me $900 aswell.
davo there's nothing one type of bracket can do that another can't. Some brands have used this type of advertising, but it's been proven to be incorrect, as brackets don't move teeth. Brackets are bonded to your teeth ... and that's all they do.
What moves teeth are archwires used with a skilled ortho. The ortho may add/remove other things like powerchains, springs, elastics etc, but it's their skill with the archwire that get your teeth to move.
Teeth in people who've passed adolescence and have fused bones, can only move within the existing bone structure, unless the patient has surgery. It's essential when an ortho is doing this type of work that they're very skilled and watch progress carefully, as there's only so much jaw bone for the teeth to move within, and if they get too close to the edge of the bone, you risk your teeth falling out, or becoming loose with continuing pressure and falling out over the years ahead.

I think it might be a good idea for me to get one or two more opinions to clear my mind before I get braces put on. This is getting frustrating!
Some great news. After doubts over the other orthodontist starting my treatment I sought one last opinion. He offers SureSmile and it looks as this is the path I will be taking. Along with this he will use damon clear braces for the font top front teeth (no extra cost) and damon 3MX for the rest. As he will be using SureSmile it will reduce my treatment time from 24 months to 15-18 months! Suprsingly it will only cost slightly abit more than if I went with damon q and innovationC so I couldnt be happier.
So nice that several of you mentioned that the orthodontist won't charge extra for getting Damon Clear.... All 5 orthodontists I have talked to want to charge me a couple hundred dollars extra. I am based in California, USA.
I'm in Toronto, I'm looking for an orthodontist now, it's not easy to find the right one. would you tell me yours or recommend some professionals in GTA by using the Damon system for their patient? my problem is overbite with the narrow arch and crowded teeth, but I don't want to extract my healthy teeth.
