    Extraction with Damon?

Have gone to a couple of consuls, both recommended Damon because it is supposed to be less painful but both recommended extractions of 4 premolars. I thought the whole thing with Damon is that it eliminates extractions? Had anyone else have the similar treatment plan?

I am so apprehensive of having any healthy teeth extracted because there are all these stories online that it could cause TMJ and whatnots... Any help would be appreciated...

No bracket system is any different with regards to their ability to require/eliminate extractions. Most bracket/wire combos can be used to created dental expansion. Extractions may be necessary for reasons other than crowding, including profile.

    Hi there,
I agree that it is dependant on the individual. However, I had my Damons fitted last april and was offered to have four teeth removed. Because I was nervous about what the effect would be I went ahead without the extractions. My dentist has told me that I'm reaching the end of my treatment but because my profile is too full we're now going to ahead with the extractions (tuesday) and move everything back. So just to say that if you're not sure you can always have them taken out towards the end!

Conor ... the damon bracket are just a bracket and they can be used by any ortho. Orthodontics is not about brackets, it's about the skill to move teeth.

If a person needs extractions its due to the size of their teeth vs the size of there jaw bone. Orthodontic treatment can align teeth ... but the jaw bone will not change once a person has gone through puberty.

Sadly many people who've been brain washed by false advertising, end up being disappointed when they realise there smile looks too big for their mouths and/or their alignment will never be great due to them needing extractions. I hope that this doesn't happen to you.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
