    post extractions eek!

ok, I'm now just over a months away from the 1 year in braces mark and 8 weeks ago after straightening out the teeth (yipee!) my ortho and i agreed that extractions were necessary (it was discussed at the begining but I chickened out basically) well after the bottom two pre molars were removed my ortho attacked a coiled spring (power arm) between the space to help close it.
6 weeks in and there had been no change, so he attached a small piece of wire and wound it tightly, it was decided that that would do it.
2 weeks later and there has still been no change, the power arm has been taken out and elastics fitted to the hooks, but my ortho seems a bit lost as to why this isn't working and what to do next.

I'm a wee bit worried at this point! lol and just wondered how anyone elses orthos got their teeth moving?

I'm due to go back in two weeks to discuss removing the upper two pre-molars.

    Any thoughts are GREATLY appreciated!

On average teeth move 1 mm a month ... which means on average your gaps should have closed by 2 mm. This is an average which means that the gaps close more quickly for some and more slowly for others ... so maybe you're one of the ones who's going to have it done more slowly.

Movement is slow ... so take some photos of your extraction sites and compare them each month and you may be surprised to see the movement over a few months.

Hopefully you'll notice a change very soon! Good luck!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
