    Broken Bracket/Tooth Pain

One of my brackets popped off today for the first time while brushing my teeth (a panic attack ensued lol). This is/was my biggest fear. However, it's a bracket that is on a tooth that's rotated 120 degrees so it's already positioned very oddly. I'm having bouts of excruciating pain in the tooth that the bracket fell off of. It's not a constant pain - just random, throbbing pain. Is this normal? I'm really worried my ortho office won't be open tomorrow since it's a holiday.

    Expected Treatment Time: 30 Months

    It won't be open tomorrow.
If you feel it's an emergency, call the office, and the machine probably has an emergency contact number. Call that.

For now, put a ton of dental wax on it, and be careful with it. They'll get you fixed up asap.

No need to have a panic attack, things happen.

    Good advice ports.

There's no point being too concerned about something like this. When a tooth is very rotated, sometimes it will happen a time or two due to the pressure being put on the archwire against the bracket.

Ring your ortho's office ... they'll contact you when they can and advice you on what's best to do.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Take some painkillers and call the office.

I had a bracket come off a tooth (front central upper incisor) and it moved a lot in the 1 week the bracket was off. When the ortho fixed it, it was like I'd had a new wire put in - as it was being moved back to where it should be again. The pain you feel could be the tooth trying to return to its original position, without the bracket on.
Bonded retainers fitted upper and lower & braces removed at 19 months 2 weeks.

    Braces were:

    In-Ovation C on the top
    Damon on the bottom

Thank you all so much! I called this morning and have my repair appointment this afternoon. I didn't mean to panic, I have just been scared of this since I got my braces. I'm worried they're going to think it's something that I am doing, but I'm following all their instructions. The tooth pain subsided and it doesn't appear that the tooth moved much. Thank you again for your replies. I really appreciate it.

Rachel please don't be scared about this, because even if it was something you'd done, these things happen ... even to the most careful patients. Instead use this opportunity to talk to your ortho about what happened and learn more about your treatment!

    Good luck!

Thank you, Sunny! You are always very helpful! I got my bracket put back on yesterday. It fell off again right after they put it on, so my ortho decided to direct bond it. I'm not sure what the difference is? The tech and my ortho both said there might have been too much cement on my tooth. I remember when I first got my braces on she added cement four times since the tooth is rotated so much and the bracket sits pretty awkwardly on it. She said once it starts rotating more to the normal position, it'll be rebonded the other way. The tech explained that these things happen a lot too, especially in the beginning of treatment when your teeth are still pretty misaligned, so next time (though I'm hoping there won't be a next time lol) I will try not to panic so much. I appreciate all the reassurance very much.

3 months in a row I had a molar buccal tube bracket fall off on the same tooth. Each time was a day or two before my next appointment.
A few months ago I had bmolar buccal tube bracket fall off... and today the tech knocked that bracket off while changing my wire.

It happens. It's all included in your price, usually. Just try to save the bracket if you can since it might be reused.
