    Damon Clear Wire

My ortho recommended me damon clear today and I think i might be getting them next weekend, I'm just a bit conscious about the archwire. And I cant go for the Invisalign since I'm not a good candidate for that and lingual are just way too expensive for me at the moment. Sooo my question is can i go for a tooth coloured arch wire(my ortho said that these are basically metal archwires that are teflon coated and even they stand out as well) with damon clear brackets? or should i just stick to the conventional metal wire?

I have clear brakets and the normal silver arch wire...unless you are a foot away from my face, the whole package isnt very easy to see. A woman I work with and interact with on a daily basis didnt even realize I had braces until a few days ago and I've had them for 2 months now.

A clear wire would be cool, but its not all that nessessary.

Softpink is correct about how difficult it is to see ceramic brackets and archwires.

You can ask your ortho if he uses the white coated wires. There are quite a few available, but ortho's aren't yet thrilled with how they work. The main issue is that the coating appears to be affecting the archwires ability to return to the shape it needs to be in. Plus in many of them, the coating cracks and comes off. Some ortho's are using the coated archwires for parts of some stages and that seems to be working fine.

I hope you find that you adjust quickly to your ceramic brackets and stainless archwires! Good luck!

Thanks for your response, guys! I did call up my ortho yesterday and he told me damon clear aren't available for the bottom teeth yet, what a bummer! So I'd be having Damon Q on the bottom and clear ones on top. I asked him about the wire and he said he's going to use the metal one for the first two months or so and then switch to a more aesthetic wire later. Oh well, a day to goo. Excited and nervous!

Oooh I should ask about a white wire to my ortho! Not that I mind the metal one.

So I got my damon clears on the upper teeth on the 5th. My teeth are so sore and i can barely chew my food. Even drinking water from a glass hurts my teeth. I'll be getting Damon Q on my bottom teeth on the 28th of this month. Hopefully, the pain would have been subsided by then?!
And I met someone today who had traditional braces as a kid and she said that the pain is just going to get worse, like in your next sitting the orthos gonna apply pressure and it'll hurt like mad!

I wanna grab a knife and scrape these things off my teeth. :'(

You poor thing! Hope you're feeling better soon!

I never had any pain ... and only mild discomfort a couple of times. I'm really grateful for that. Luckily most people don't have much (if any) discomfort, so here's to your mouth feeling improving fast.

Keep well hydrated, use generous amounts of wax on any teeth that rub and rinse often with warm salt water to soothe your mouth.

    Good luck!

I had pain with my top and bottom, which were put on at seperate times. The top was the worst though. It hurt to even brush my teeth...day 2 and 3 were the worst. It does get better though. The best thing you can do is keep on chewing and trying to eat normally. After about a week I was good to go! Good luck!

The way braces work now is different than back then. With self-ligating brackets the pain is not as bad as it was in the past. With all of the wire changes I have had at my adjustments, never was I in any type of pain when they changed them. The pain would come the next day because of the new pressure, but that is to be expected. I don't even think I've taken any pain medications since the pain was bearable. It will get better in a few days!

It's been two weeks and I'm pain free! Except in the mornings, just when I wake up I'll feel pressure in my mouth for about 5 minutes and then everything goes back to normal! So, it's all good for now until the 28th!
