    Question about appearance

Hello everyone! I just got Damon Clear this past wednesday and I have to say I am not happy with the way I look. My mouth looks like it has been stuffed with cotton balls and I can barely even talk! Will this change as time goes on? Or will I look and sound like this the entire time of my treatment? (Treatment time for me is 24-30 months)

    Hopefully you'll adjust quickly!

Do your upper teeth need to move back in your jaw bone? If they do, this will mean your mouth will not have as much of a 'full feeling'.

Some people do say they feel something like you've written in the early weeks of getting braces ... all kinds of brackets, and they adjust quickly and within a few weeks forget they have braces.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

I'm not sure if they do or not. I do know that when I went to the dentist before on the x-rays it showed that my teeth were sticking out, which is weird because just by looking at my teeth they don't look like they stick out. I'm hoping it goes away soon. I don't want to look and feel like this the entire time I have braces.

I'm also getting 4 teeth extracted this Thursday, which also means I have to adjust to eating with 4 spaces in my mouth Do you know how long it usually takes before I can start eating solid foods again? I also have bite blocks on the back of my teeth which already makes it more difficult.

Talk to your dentist as they will give you a list of things to do ... like don't drink through a straw for the first couple of days, don't poke around the extractions sites ... as you don't want to dislodge the blood clots, etc!

    Good luck!

Ok, will do! Thanks! Not excited about the whole beginning process of the braces considering I can't eat like I want to, but like everyone says, it's all worth it in the end.

You will find that the longer the braces are in your teeth you will get more used to them in your mouth. The first couple days I had a slight lisp from my braces and bite blocks but after a week I was back to normal. And now my bite is continuing to get better and better.

Yeah I was starting to get a little better and then I had my 4 extractions yesterday, and now I'm talking even funnier than before! I'm just ready for the beginning phase of braces to be over, considering the beginning is usually the worst part. I'm just wondering how I'm going to be able to eat with 4 spaces in my mouth. Does anyone know how long it usually takes for extractions to close? I don't want to have to eat with spaces the whole time I have braces.

Teeth move on average 1 mm a month, so once your ortho starts work to close those gaps, you can measure the gaps and see approximately how long it might take. Good luck!

You will get use to them and soon you see the changes in your teeth. The braces will look different too!!!
