I have traditional ceramic brackets, and I worry about too much pressure too. I havent had first real adjustment yet, but just placing the wires in, was painful, and I thought my teeth would fall out.
I would like to know if other people have found the process of closing the brackets over the rectangular wires extremely painful. Apparently I have the DamonQ system, and this week I had the bottom wire changed to rectangular. The orthodontist seemed to battle to close the brackets, especially the one, which left my tooth throbbing with pain until the next day..doesn't seem right because I haven't seen complaints about this on the forum. I'm concerned about the pressure he is applying to my teeth and what potential harm it could do. And I'm dreading having the top wire done! If you have/have not experienced this, please let me know. Thanks!

The Crime: Protruding upper canine, upper and lower crowding.
Sentence: 2 years
Fine: $4,100
First day with brackets: 12/05/2011. 4 Extractions: 12/12/11. 1st Adjustment: 01/04/12. 2nd Adjustment: 2/15/12 Pulling the canine down. 3rd Adjustment 3/28/12 (canine's in the wire, and pulled into position!). 4th adjustment: 5/16/2012 (closing the gaps!)
I can't bite anything with my front teeth for a day or two after getting a new wire because of this. And it gets worse and worse as the wires get bigger. In fact, the ortho usually has to push down on the wire while the assistant closes the bracket door. I thought there was no way they would get the biggest wire in with all the trouble it was for the smaller ones, but I am on the biggest now and the doors closed easier than with some of the smaller wires. I've never really been worried about it- just figured that was part of the joy of braces.![]()
