A good orthodontist is an artist - he will take what he needs from one system, and something from another, and put together something individual and unique to suit each particular client's needs. A professional knows how to choose from the entire array of research and findings in orthodontics to create something to suit a particular patient. S/he is not just following a rule book produced by one manufacturing company. (Sigh.)
If you think that 'slenderising' healthy teeth is bad, what do you propose is done to fix black triangles which occur when previously crowded teeth are straightened? The only 2 solutions are to use IPR or bonding. The Damon system is not magic.
My ortho used regular brackets on all my teeth but unfortunately the Damon bracket wasn't sufficient to straighten my partially impacted wisdom tooth. He felt that this tooth needed more leverage to straighten it, and that a molar band would provide better leverage. It worked and I now have a disimpacted wisdom tooth. This did not work with the Damon system. It needed a professional experienced with using a variety of methods and procedures to perceive the exact situation he was confronted with and to come up with a creative solution which would work.
Our teeth have not read the Damon brochure.
