I am in Maryland paying $4k for 16U/19L aligners. I am now on tray 5 but am paused for a mid-course correction. No extra fee for it. He has seen me multiple times (maybe 3-4 times) during the course so far due to buttons falling off (unfortunately ALL of my molars are crowns and the buttons don't stick as well to crowns) and also due to the pain I was experiencing. He said the visits and the button replacements are included in the price.

I'm in the NYC area and paying $2,990 for a full treatment (16 trays on top / 15 trays on the bottom) with an Elite Premiere Provider. The price includes the complete treatment (including refinements if necessary). The only thing I will have to pay for is the retainer once I'm done.

I have to say I find it sad that people don't understand in most cases you get what you pay for. Different people have different goals, so hopefully, they are getting what they seek. Two of my new patients today were treated by general dentists that I am retreating. People would be amazed to understand what well trained orthodontists in addition to lining up the teeth. It is about the whole face, not merely a few crooked teeth.

My advice is shop around for the best you can afford, it is different for everyone, but don't compare each other's cases by price. It is truly apples and oranges and it gets you all confused. There is a huge difference between orthodontist and dentist in skill and there is even a difference between orthodontists.

It is not like shopping for a car. If you were bitten on the face by a dog that left an unsitely scar, would you A. have the ER doctor do a surgical revision B. have your family physician do the corrective surgery C. Have a general surgeon do the revision or D. Have a plastic surgeron (a specialist and the most highly trained person for this procedure) do the revision?

This is your face and there is so much more to it than lining up your front teeth. You can pay now or pay more later. I realize this may sound like a rant, but unfortuneately, it is a reality. Dr D

$4400 in St. Louis, MO for 9 upper/ 11 lower but i've had braces twice before and my teeth weren't that bad, but i didn't want them to keep drifting. I was told after 40 teeth shift again well I'm 44 and mine did! Regular braces which I would have had to wear longer were $3400. I opted to spend the extra grand and go discreet at my age.

Mine is costing £3800 (~ $6250 USD) and includes free whitening at the end. Apparently my case is quite complex (who knows....?).

I've got about 19 uppers and 24 lowers (Off the top of my head!).

To be honest, I'm not sure what the going rate is in the UK - Invisalign is only just becoming popular over here...

    Hi There -

From personal experience I can say it definitely does pay to shop around. I went to 3 different offices in my area, with all 3 giving me different information on Invisalign (cost, time, extractions, etc.) I finally settled with one provider whose price was a good $1100 cheaper, with a shorter time frame and did not require any tooth extractions. My total was $4,500.

I can see the different prices but I not really find out: Depends the price on the number of the trays? For example is there a rule that says that 20 trays are cheaper than 30 trays?

While it would be good to spend less money if you were purchasing things like an kitchen appliance (since the appliance is the same no matter where you get it from), it is very different from a treatment where your results will be different depending on who is planning and executing your Invisalign care. Depending on the amount of work you require and the results you are looking for, there can be different plans, lengths of time, and final results.

Obviously treatment without extractions will take less time, often times resulting in a lower professional fee.

Personally, I would really like to see members post their treatment fee, along with the actual amount of time in treatment, and how happy they are with their final results in this thread. It isn't possible to say that it is worthwhile shopping around or a "good deal" until you actually receive what you pay for... and this is no earlier than the end of treatment, and into years of retention.

My cost is $5500. There wasn't much shopping around I could have done because there's only 2 orthos in my area that are preferred providers. And one of them, while good, catered more towards children. I felt more comfortable with the ortho I chose, which is why I chose him.

It's important to remember though that you can get the best ortho in the world with the most knowledge and the best techniques, but still get crappy results if you don't put 100% into the treatment yourself. An ortho can only do so much. In the end, you get out of it what you put in.

100% accurate :). The two major factors for Invisalign success are a properly planned treatment (responsibility of doctor) and a wearing aligners as directed (responsibility of Invisalign user). Best of luck!

That would be great! As mentioned, you don't know what you've paid for until the final result is in. The overall cost of treatment before the final results are delivered would be like ordering something customized and commenting on the "good deal" before seeing what you've paid for. Look forward to seeing your new smile :).

    Dr. Tam,

That is all well and understood. Although I feel your reply was a little outrageous to liken an Invisalign treatment to "appliance shopping, I'd like to clarify the following:

Personally, I would really like to see members post their treatment fee, along with the actual amount of time in treatment, and how happy they are with their final results in this thread. It isn't possible to say that it is worthwhile shopping around or a "good deal" until you actually receive what you pay for... and this is no earlier than the end of treatment, and into years of retention.

As mentioned my total treatment fee is $4,500 USD, with an estimated time in treatment of 2 years. Granted, I am only 4 months in, so the timeline is expected to fluctuate. I did a lot of research on local orthodontists, and am thoroughly pleased with my decision and the process thus far. Of course, as you say, only the end result can guarantee that. With a great opportunity that meets my needs, and personally being ready to make a commitment to Invisalign, I consider this "a good deal'.

Hopefully this has cleared up any misunderstanding, and I do hope that my future posts will not be as brashly replied to as this.

Good luck to all during their treatment!

These responses have me worried. I selected my invisalign provider, not by cost which is also important, but by their ranking from invisalign and the provider's rating. Case in point, I'm downtown Chicago and my choices came down to 2 providers. Both were premier elite or whatever. One was an ortho(#1) and the other was a dentist even though he has an ortho(#2) at his practice (that ortho(#2) took care of my wisdom teeth removal and I could not have asked for better treatment).

Several years back, I had gone to the ortho(#1) who was an invisalign premier and this guy was full of himself. He spent the first 20 minutes blowing smoke up his own a$$. He ranted and raved about his qualifications before he decided it was time to do his job. I went there just for general dentistry and too inquire about braces. At some point, I thought I was at a try-out to become a vegas showgirl based on his questions. His rankings on yelp did not help much. That guy put a face on creepy doctors, too - you know, the kind who ended up in the news after giving his patients too much attention. The guy was so much that my review on yelp about him was 'he was the kind of doctor that if he put you under, you'll need a morning after pill'.

Anyway, I asked other people about him and this guy has a reputation and nothing could convince me to give him another shot. I decided to go with the dentist and hope I made the right decision.

I'm in Virginia and my treatment totaled $5700 with a military discount. All together I'm looking at 16-18 months treatment time. Today my dentist created some space in my smile by shaving between...that was...comfortable lol

I'm in Atlanta and have 16U/16L with 9 attachments. I had consultations with several providers before choosing the one I was comfortable with and had treated a friend with great results. So far I am very happy with her work with me. My cost is $3900 with insurance covering $1500. I'm three weeks in and already feel a difference when I floss, although I don't see any difference in the mirror. I'm still early in treatment.

    Insurance covers half
    $1000 Groupon (lol)

    19 months of treatment
    19 Upper
    19 Lower

My dentist is performing my work. This is my second time in orthodontia. He is taking a far more aggressive approach than my previous orthodontist. I have an overbite, my midlines are off center.

    Talking Orthodontist worth higher price!

I am posting out of gratitude for a post I read prior to starting Invisalign that influenced my decision on who to use for my Invisalign treatment.

This post advised to use an orthodontist rather than a dentist for Invisalign, and I couldn't agree more! (Dr. D offers a similar recent post.)

I got three consultations with quotes prior to starting treatment last April. The orthodontist was an Elite Invisalign provider (the highest - meaning she has treated LOTs of patients with Invisalign)

One of the dentists was listed as Elite, but it turned out that a colleague was Elite because he was associated with many offices, and was lending his name to many newer dentists, so none of them were actually Elite, but they combined to gain Elite status! (watch out for that!)

The consultation with the orthodontist was very detailed, telling where she would administer buttons, the problems with my bite, and how she would adjust it, etc. The consultations with both dentists by contrast, were vague and the treatment length was 1/3 the time that the orthodontist estimated! (tempting, but suspicious!)

So despite the cost being significantly higher approx $6000 vs. $4000-5000, I trusted the orthodontist much more, and am so glad I made that decision. She is clearly an expert in the field of Invisalign, and is taking precise and excellent care of me during the treatment. I am on tray 15 out of 36, and am very pleased with the results so far.

A dentist I recently saw, who also offers Invisalign, asked me about the buttons and how the rubber band buttons were attached... He clearly didn't have a clue!

Your teeth affect your longevity, and are so important for health, at least consult with an orthodontist before choosing your Invisalign provider. They are trained in moving teeth - dentists are not. Groupon Invisalign coupons also tend to be with dentists who are new to Invisalign.

Hope this helps in your decision making! Happy Smiles!

    my invisalign total is $7800

i live in San Jose and my orthodontist is in Mountainview, CA.

a video simulation of my ortho treatment over the course of 1.5 years is here: This is what $7380 pays for - YouTube

Here is a breakdown of how I will pay it:
    Insurance's Portion: $2000
    Discount on initial downpayment: $200
    Flex Pay: $3600
    Cisco Health Incentive 2011: $600
Cisco Health Incentive 2012: $800 (my company gives you money for health related costs if you take initiatives to become healthier)

So far I have paid $4750.00 CDN and still going. My original treatment plan was for 9 to 12 months and I pay per month as the treatment progresses. I am currently in month 15!

If I had it to do again I do not know if I would have even started the treatment as it has not progressed the way that I had envisioned. The last 2 trays in this set pushed one of my central incisors down below the other. I have now been in treatment to fix this for 8 weeks. I now have braces on the 2 front teeth and it looks like that may have to be expanded in order to fix what Invisalign caused. I should have negotiated a complete price instead of this plan as I keep paying for a faulty product. Not nice in my view.

If you are considering using this product then be sure you really understand the process as much as you can.

While many offices offer monthly payment plans, the payments usually do not coincide with actual office visits. Most treatments should be a total package fee to take your teeth from where they start to where they need to be at the end of treatment.

I paid £2400 I think - and that includes everything until I'm happy with result, including all appointments and whitening. I'm just over a year into the treatment, onto refinements now. I'm in London, UK but travel to Cambridge for treatment as the Orthodontist is simply the best guy for the job and this is the key - it's not the cost, but your confidence in the Ortho and his/her results.

My dentist is the Invisalign preferred provider and his fee is $5,500 (full case) in North Carolina, US. This include monthly dental check-up after 2 trays.

I got lucky because while waiting for my first visit (appt made), he has a deal in Groupon to cut his treating fee in half! $2750!

And after insurance coverage (no age limit), I only need to pay about $540! But I still get the exact same full case treatment.

My treatment is £3000 (GBP) for 25 U and L and free whitening at the end. I travel about 40 minutes into London. I too shopped around and was quoted between £3000 and £4500! Not sure how some practices can get away with charging so much more when essentially it's the same treatment plan. My dentist offers several payment options also, 0% monthly finance, quarterly installments etc. I have heard stories where they whack on loads of extras at the end which you have to pay for but fingers crossed that won't happen to me! :)

There are many reasons why Invisalign treatment may cost different amounts and the exact reason is that the ClinCheck plan is NOT going to be the same. Remember that Invisalign is not a product. It is a treatment technique so the doctor who works with your treatment is responsible for how your teeth will look at the end. Invisalign does not make the treatment plan. I suggest you take a look at the sticky thread about Invisalign being a technique rather than a product.

All that being said, all the best with your treatment!

Thank you Doctor Kam, I appreciate your explanation and have read the suggested thread which is very informative. I guess I just don't understand how my dentist, an industry expert in Invisalign and one of the few in the UK to achieve the prestigious Platinum Elite Status Award from Invisalign Technology, can be £1500 cheaper than ones with much less experience. But as you say they may do things very differently. Either way it wasn't just about price for me, but it's a massive bonus that my preferred Dentist was also one of the cheapest. :thumb: So far so good! :)

Mine cost $7000, but had it down to $6000 thanks to a Groupon deal! The treatment is for 1.5 years (this is my first post and it looks like everyone knows how many trays they have... I guess I should be looking into that as well.) And this includes retainers after treatment & everything else in between. Great ortho - actually was featured in CNN! (super cool)

Mine costed 6200$ in seattle for 18 month treatment. I got similar or higher quotes from 3 other ortho's in the area. So the price seems to be the avg for WA

After reading this thread I had no idea how lucky I am, I have 10 months of treatment and 24 sets of trays, and I only paid $200 USD (yes two hundred US dollars). My wife is an Orthodontist's assistant and her office gave me 50% off, plus I am dual covered in dental insurance by myself and my parents, and her doctor cut off about $1500 from the price. I was hoping for the express but he wanted to go with the full thing which was $1500 more so he covered it to give me the best results.

Im in Australia and I think its something like $8500 AUD but i pay it in little instalments every time I have an appointment so its not like its a huge out of pocket expense (last time I had to lash out 3500 though!) and i have private health insurance, which is think covers like 20%...

Thank You GROUPON, $2999 in St Louis....41 trays (ouch) 1.5 years....but I did commit to an additional $1500 or so for the retainer at the end and i think the groupon only covered 15 months or something.

    Hi,

First visit at the orthodontist last week in London for invisalign tretament. Over £5300!! (includes everything). Reading previous posts, it seems at the top of the price range.

I have seen an other ortho before, who told me the only treatment he would consider for me would be external braces (I have a narrow smile with mild retroclination), but this wasn't an option for me. So he referred me to his colleague, saying that if it were doable with invisalign (which he kind of doubted at the time), then he would only do it with someone as experienced as him.

He's a highly recommended and experienced practitioner, but really wondering if it's worth putting the extra money, especially given that the complexity of my case didn't seem to really impress him after all.
I find it really hard to appreciate why I would pay twice the price of some other place, without any more guarantee of the result... Any advice?

Anybody? I understand that invisalign is a treatment and not a product, but is it really worth paying that much to be sure expectations will be met? I guess what is missing in this thread is examples of people who shopped around, went for the cheapest, and were disappointed with the results.

The issue with orthodontic treatment is that very few people will be able to give a comparison of doctors, because for the most part, treatment is only completed once.

With regards to the skilled doctor not being impressed by the complexity of your case... isn't that a good thing? I will say that we have many patients coming into our office who are told they are not "Invisalign candidates", but have malocclusions similar to those we have successfully treated many times over. In fact, to us, many of them are of the bread and butter variety.

Compare apples to apples. You can't compare your first doctor to the second, as one will do fixed braces, and the other Invisalign. In some offices, there won't be this discrepancy, while in others, Invisalign will cost more. With your first doctor, there is much less of a guarantee that your treatment will be successful and he has already told you that. Unless you can find another experienced doctor who charges less, the only way to answer your question is to figure out how important it is that your treatment is done with aligners vs braces.

The cost of my treatment is $4660. For me it included a frenectomy and includes the permenent retainer that will be bonded to my teeth after treatment. I'm located in N.C.
