Helo please! Unknown device!

I've had my braces on for 16 months now and in the next adjustment my orthodontist said I need a device on my front teeth because they are bending inwards.
He was in a hurry and wouldn't answer any of my questions leaving me there extremely worried and confused.
I have a few questions for anyone that could please help me.
1. What is this device called???
2. What does it look like? Does it obviously show?
3. Is it big?
4. Any pain involved?

I'm extremely scared. Braces have been a really hard ordeal for me and my parents offer no support. Does anyone out there know what I'm talking about?

Hmmmm....

Well it would be interesting to see i guess. Lucky me if no one else knows what it is. I just hope this isn't noticable. I'm really big on the issue of people not knowing i have braces. Will keep everyone posted, one week till the appointment.

wow you and i are so much alike. Some of my best friends didn' even know I had braces on. I managed to not smile and keep them tucked for so long, but seeing other people enjoy their life socially with braces makes me sad that I did not!

Good luck and keep us posted.
