We are looking for braces pictures to use on the site to educate people about the different types of braces.

We are looking for anything you can provide. Such as metal braces, ceramic, invisalign, damon, retainers, etc.

Please send via email or post in this thread:

Sunny, those pictures are interesting. Some of those appliances look painful.

The pics I've added to this thread are to help people recognise some of the more common types of brackets and equipment used. I have folders of pics I've used with assignment in the past, and this is where I found these pics.

My personal photos are in my blog ... see address below. I will make the effort to summarise my story thus far for the blog section and try to keep it up-to-date. I think blogs are great for helping others to see your progress and read what does and doesn't work for you.

It's important to remember there's a load of misinformation on the www ... so keep an open mind, and always check where the information you're reading is coming from ... and who's funding it, if it's research. We also need to remember that what works for one person may not for another, also what one person calls pain, may be no more than a tickle for another, and excruciating pain for another.

I hate to say this, Admin, but I'd advise anyone against sharing personal images like that. There are a lot of people out there on the www who would use pictures like that in ways altogether different than those intended. And you never know if someone who would do that is frequenting your board. In fact, it's more than likely that such people are, at the very least, reading these forums.

You can easily posts pics of your braces without a picture of your face.

Not that you can see much, but this is a picture of my teeth, when I first put my aligners on

You are right... lets try and keep it to just pictures of the mouth area...

Punkin - I always think it is wonderful when people are willing to share their progress pictures, as it can provide so much encouragement to others who are contemplating treatment, or who are perhaps going through a bit of a slow spell during treatment. And certainly, cropping the images to the mouth area alone should serve to maintain rather more anonymity.

But still, if you do crop them, be aware that even so your images may still be copied and put to other use. I've seen it happen before, and would hate to see someone upset by having it happen to them when they did not expect it. It's all quite unsavoury, really.

Zoso, I agree. This wasn't mean to say "Oh don't post pictures! People will steal them and spread them around the internet". I hope that doesn't happen to anyone here. I am not worried about posting pictures, but do be careful. The pictures do encourage

Yep, EnglishRose - fetish sites. Some people take pictures from discussion forums and repost them on these sites. It happened to me in the past with some pictures I posted on Archwired (another very large braces discussion forum).

Kind of sad, because it makes everyone reluctant to post photos when they are misused in this way.

I agree with you, Sarah.

I don't understand why people have a braces fetish. No offence to people with a braces fetish. I used to go on archwired.com like zeocin. I was comfortable with posting pictures every once in a while. A way you can discourage people from taking your pictures is by putting a watermark in your picture. If you have paint or Photoshop you can do this. When I think about it, I will put watermarks in my pictures with my username in it so people are less likely to steal it.

A watermark's not a bad idea, Mariah. I'm not sure though if it would be enough to deter the fetish types entirely. Unless the watermark really does quite markedly affect the image, I'd image it would still be suited to such salacious purposes.

What disturbs me most about them, if I am entirely candid, is when they collect (and share among their group!) images of youngsters in braces. It's bad enough when it's adults whose images they are stealing for their own use, but when it's images of minors to me that smacks also of an element of paedophilia.

Anyway, by all means watermark your images - at the very least it would serve to identify them should anyone steal them for whatever purpose, and try to pass them off as their own. But perhaps it would be wiser not to watermark them with your name (guessing that Mariah is part of your real name) - best to keep them as anonymous as possible, again in case they do end up in the wrong collections.

Zoso, Mariah is my nickname. As long as it somewhat gets in the way of viewing your teeth...

Watermark it with your favourite phrase, word, or something, maybe a fake name or nickname. You can use paint to do that or photoshop.
