Give it a week or two ....
I think most of us were like that for a week or two 18, but before long you realise that your decision will make no difference to your eating. It's a confidence thing. If you have a good ortho, you can be confident that your brackets have been put on well and that eating will not affect them. Next you get over your own lazy feelings about rinsing with water ... and become confident that you can keep your mouth clean.
Then you'll realise that having braces can and in most cases does, cost loads more. First there's the cost of treatment, the cost of getting to treatment, then the cost of your oral hygiene. Although much of what we do isn't necessary ... eg, waterpiks, they can make life easier and so does having more than one kind of toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash etc. The only additions we recommend to the 'normal' oral hygiene routine for our patients is to use interdental brushes to clean between teeth and around the brackets. Also changing to a floss that is suitable to use with braces will make life easier, but not everyone does this.
I'd never want to work out the cost of my orthodontic treatment, but it's many thousands of dollars more than if I'd not had them.
Enjoy your food and never deprive yourself, unless it's a lifestyle decision.
