Exclamation Bleeding while brushing teeth

While i was brushing my teeth, i bled a little on the gums (the same area where 1 particular tooth has been paining me a little) i switched to a manual toothbrush since my last post but it staggered me a little seeing the blood. I know it's nothing serious but i just felt like i needed to post this thread. I believe that having braces that my teeth can be sensitive when it's shifting... but has anyone experienced this before?

P:S. i do feel much more comfortable using a manual toothbrush than the electric toothbrush -- it can sometimes be harsh on the gums. Comments?

Bad Gums

I use electric brush before brace. Now that I have brace I use manual brush.

It is crazy to use electric brush on the brace, it is bound to knock something loose brace/tooth/gum! Although they say it is safe techniquely.

I use to have bleeding comes when I floss. Not any more.

You may have a likely case of Bad Gums even with good brushing. Eating hot food can also make the gum blow up for several weeks but it does not bleed.

Silvermist you are best to use whatever type of brush you prefer. Make sure it's soft and has a small head. Don't brush hard and be especially careful when brushing your gums.

18 if you use an electric brush correctly, it will never damage your teeth, gums or any orthodontic work you have. If you use an electric brush incorrectly, it's highly likely you also use your manual brush incorrectly, as it is easier to use an electric toothbrush. Brushing with an electric brush is the best way to brush your gums, as you don't apply any pressure, just let the brush do the job. When brushing your gums with a manual toothbrush, you need to be very careful, as you must apply a very gently pressure and move the brush in circles. Orthodontic brackets (when attached by a competent orthodontist), will not come loose easily. The bonding is very secure and will put up with loads of pressure. Occassionally due to the positioning of a tooth, more pressure is put on one part of a bracket and in that case it may come loose easier, but the orthodontist will be expecting this.

Silvermist, healthy gums do not bleed. I recommend you see your dentist to have a check and clean as soon as you can. There's many possibilities about what could be happening with your sore and bleeding gum. Hopefully it's very simple to fix, but the sooner your dentist can treat that area, the better your results.

A few people find that when teeth move they experience sensitivity or some type of discomfort. If it's related to the tooth, you're best to change to a toothpaste that is designed for sensitive teeth. Moving teeth should never cause your gums to bleed, as this is a different thing.

Good luck getting this sorted. Also I recommend you ask your dentist to show you how to brush correctly and how to use an interdental brush correctly. You may also need to have the art of flossing with braces demonstrated carefully, as it's important to floss once a day ... every day of our lives. Take care!

i floss and brush my teeth after EVERY meal... and no my gums are not in any pain. i believe that it bled because i may have been brushing "not-so-gently" right before my batt. died on my electric toothbrush. but as i said before, i switched back to a manual toothbrush until the sensitivity of the tooth dies down. i'll be calling my ortho tomorrow just to get her opinion. thanks for the replies everyone

Silver there's no need to floss after every meal, and this could be affecting the health of your gums. Flossing once a day is sufficient, as is brushing 2-3 times, gently with a small soft brush.

I had mild gum disease ... no pain, no bleeding, no indications at all. It was at a dental appointment that it was discovered and treatment to sort the problem then began. My dentist felt sure I'd have had some bleeding, but in my case that didn't happen.

Good luck with your cleaning routine and tooth movement!

Good information, Sunny. At most I floss twice a day.

It's great that you're flossing Mariah and remember once a day is sufficient. If you have some food between your teeth, an interdental pic is the way to remove that. Flossing is to remove bacteria that is collecting just beneath the gum line, on the root of the teeth.

Keep up your great oral hygiene!

And dislodge food trapped between teeth.

I get meat and salad particles squashed between my teeth and I floss to remove them.

This is absolutely okay. My dentist (read DOCTORIALtrained dental professional) told me so!
