Head gear???

I am 14 and I just got my bottom braces on last month, my top teeth stick out forward a bit. My orthodontist said I can either have 2 teeth pulled on the top to make room, or I can wear head gear in the evenings and night times to hold my top teeth back. If it doesn't work then I might have to have an operation in a few years to make my bottom jaw bigger. I don't know what to do and my mum isn't sure either. Has anybody else worn head gear and did it work? I don't wanna wear it, but I don't want an operation either! Help!
