Can I use super glue on my brackets?
Alright, this is crazy.. I went to china and I find no ortho insite. I have super glue but I am not sure if I should use it. Its like my 4th day my bracket came off, I'll describe it a bit more. My bracket is out of place, i can shift it up or down, right or left. My orthodontist is in america and I have to stay here for around 1-2 more months. I really don't know what to do, but does super glue work? I think it just sticks on your teeth and you can remove it when ever. The bracket is located on my big teeth, the 3rd far back one.
What should i do? I know theres orthos in china but just what can i do for now? |

ditto! well put sunny
Having a bracket float on the wire is not such a big deal and can usually wait to be fixed until next adjustment. The other brackets and wire are still in place, so as sunny said this will hardly delay your treatment time. It is more annoying than anything, but definetly don't put superglue in your mouth.. there have been several cases of the years of poisoning due to this.. |

NO,no, no,no,nooooooo!
Superglue has chemicals in that might ruin your teeth. What would happen if your sitting there and suddenly now have a hold in your tooth because you wanted to play orthodontist? You wonuldn't be too happy! Plus the fact that orthodontist has to carefully place the braket in the exact location needed on the tooth. Were talking millimeters here. You would never know if you were just one little millimeter off and then you mess your teeth up and ruin everything. Plus how did you plan on getting the wire back in without tools? I'm not trying to be mean I'm just trying to show how bad an idea that is. I see the situation is tough. I would be pretty upset if my braket broke in China! I really want my braces off as soon as possible and considering your going to be there a long time I would want to find a solution too. Call you orthodontist and have an appoinment made for right when you get back. I doubt your teeth well move too much to totally throw everything off. In the end everything should be fine. Good luck!

Its like this, i can shift the bracket any direction, i don't have to move the wire, i can simply pull the bracket out a little and i can find a white square on my teeth meaning thats where it has been stuck to, put superglue there and stick it back on. Is it alright if I get a different orthodontist to stick it back on. But Chinese orthos are different from americans orthos, so would there be an error if they put it on wrong or any sort? Or shold i just wait til i get back to america.

How long will it be until you return to the States? If it's not long, then it's probably best to take no action (except maybe some wax to hold the bracket loosely in place if it's bothering you). If it will be quite some time, you could get a local ortho to rebond the bracket - that should be OK.
But as to superglue, for all the reasons above, and then some, no no no. Apart from everything mentioned above, the bonding agents used for orthodontic brackets are specially forumulated - not only to hold the brackets securely to the teeth without damage to your health or to the enamel, but also to come off the teeth properly at the end of treatment - be horrible to end up damaging your enamel seriously when trying to remove the bracket at the end of your time in braces! |

You have internet access, so you can surely use the www to find their phone number? And I am sure that any of the three docs treating you (I am assuming a group practice?) can offer you general advice at the least; but as they should all be able to access your records, surely any could offer specific advice also.

I agree with Zoso - not having their number is an excuse, as well as their being 3 people. I'm sure that any one of those three people can either look at your chart and answer your question, or consult with others to come up with an answer.
Google's an amazing tool, you know |
