Former Braces Wearer here!

I had braces when I was 15 until the time that I was 17, I had pretty bad teeth but I now have a perfect smile and I am glad that I went through what I did because it was sooooo worth it. I look forward to answering any questions that I can.

It’s great to hear such success stories from formal braces wearers. I got my braces removed yesterday. But my doc told me that I have to wear my retention braces for 8 months. Do you thing that we really have to wear them for so long?

That sounds about right to me. If I remember correctly I had to wear the retainer for about 8 months to a year even. I did whatever they told me because I was afraid that if I didn't that my teeth would go back to how there were!

I recently had my braces taken off and I am required to wear my retainer for a year. It just seems so long. I went through two years of wearing braces and now I have to deal with this. It’s a long process to have that perfect smile. After the cost of my braces I am going to be sure to wear my retainer. I don’t want my teeth to go back to the way the use to be.

I have a question, did you have the clear braces or the older type style? I still have my wisdom teeth and I've always thought I would need to get them pulled before I could ever get braces. Is that true?

Yes, get your wisdom teeth removed first. I didnt take mine out and when I got my braces off, the wisdom teeth came in and starting crowding all my lower teeth. I had to get the wisdom teeth removed and then braces back on for a year to fix the crowding.
