Ibraces in 6 days, some questions?

    Hey guys,

In five days I'm having ibraces put in my top and bottom teeth. First off, any suggestions as far as a remedy for the pain (teeth and tounge)?

I currently bartend at a very busy establishment which requires me to carry on numerous conversationsn through out the night. I'm taking off all of Tuesday, Wednesday and I work at 4pm on Thursday. I plan on doing as much talking out loud during this time as possible to try and get my tounge adjusted. Any thoughts?

One more questions....I just graduated from college and have been applying for some sales positions and was just left a message from a great company I'd love to get in with about a possible interview 3 days after my ibraces are put on. What should I do?! I'd love to interview but going in their unable to speak would look awful considering it's a sales job. Anyone have any experience that could help out? thanks a lot!

I would wait on the interview until you are fully adjusted to the ibraces. However I know A LOT of people that were used to them after 24 hours... there are some cases on this site in which people take some getting used to them, but I think it is rare...

You need to take painkillers such as advil. It really helped me during the first two weeks I had ibraces. take a painkiller about an hour before your meal will let you enjoy your meals much better.

soft food such as jello, rice pudding, tofu, soup do not irritate you as much as hard food. cook your vegetables will reduce the amount of fiber that will be trapped in your brackets.

If you can wait for about two weeks to have your interview that will be ideal. I was able to eat without too much pain and talk without too much struggle after two weeks.

    Hi and good luck NewGuy!

Make sure you have loads of wax and be generous with the amount you put on the brackets, as this will help your tongue and your ability to speak and eat.

Also rinse your mouth as often as you can with warm salt water. This helps soothe the tissue in your mouth.

I recommend you phone the company you received the message about, to find out if/when they want to interview you. If it's within a few days of you getting your ibraces, ask if it's possible to be interviewed a few days later. You don't have to tell them why, but of course you can ... your choice on that one.

Talking and singing are both great exercises when you first get ibraces. Here's a passage that may help ...
The Rainbow Passage ... This is a great tool used by many speech pathologists. It contains most of the sounds and phonetic combinations in the English language.

    The Rainbow Passage

When the sunlight strikes raindrops in the air, they act like a prism and form a rainbow. The rainbow is a division of white light into many beautiful colours. These take the shape of a long round arch, with its path high above, and its two ends apparently beyond the horizon. There is, according to legend, a boiling pot of gold at one end. People look, but no one ever finds it. When a man looks for something beyond his reach, his friends say he is looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

    Good luck!
