tell me it gets better!

I'm only on day 2, but I'm feeling like I've made a very big (expensive) mistake. Eventually, will I not notice that I'm wearing them? Please tell me yes And that they pain and lisp will go away, too.

And when I take them off to eat, my teeth hurt so bad that it brings tears to my eyes. Usually I can deal with pain. I guess I'm panicking since I know they'll be on my teeth for awhile.

I'm also interested to know what you do when you go out to eat? Trying to keep them on for 23 hrs a day is kinda hard!

The first 3 to 4 days are indeed the worse.. I'll admit that.. but hang in there.. I dont even notice the shifting anymore...

You can take ibuprofin in the mean time to help with the pain.. but you are just having the normal anxiety that we all have when spending this kind of cash...

It gets better. The pain subsides after a few days.

As for me, when I go out to eat, I usually leave them in until after we order, then excuse myself to the ladies room, take them out, and return to the table. After we eat, if we are going home, I wait until we get home before I put them back in; if we are going out, I'll again use the ladies room to clean my teeth and put them back in.

23 hours is a bit excessive. My ortho says 20-21 hours a day. You have to eat. You don't want to risk your health because of it.

The lisp will go away. Some say that singing in the car will help that, or just talking to yourself - maybe read a book aloud or something to practice talking helps. You have something foreign in your mouth, and you need to learn to "talk" around it.

Motrin is my best friend when I change my aligners. Some trays seem to be worse than others. And depending on which teeth each set of trays are focusing on, taking them out/putting them on can be excruciating for the first couple of days, but it does get better.

like all braces forms, it is tough in the beginning.. especially as an adult... hang in there. .it gets much easier!

Thanks for all of the replies! There really isn't any pain anymore. Its just getting used to them being in my mouth. They don't feel so tight on my teeth, though. I might see how they feel over the weekend and maybe call my ortho on Monday just to check that they are on ok. Yesterday my tongue popped off my lower aligner. It doesn't seem like that should happen. And I have to stop my tongue from messing around with them. I'm sure it will get better as time goes along. And the lisp is getting better, although I sound like my 4 year old sometimes

They should get looser as the weeks go on, but popping it off with your tongue, I'm guessing you don't have any buttons or attachments on those bottom teeth. Those buggers hold those aligners on pretty darn good.

I'm on day one here myself. Guess I'm lucky not to have any pain or a lisp, but they feel just so strange being there.

My back teeth naturally meet, but now there's a thin layer of plastic there and I'm dying to grind them (don't worry, I won't).

I'm just very conscious of them being there at the moment. I'm sure I'll adapt as time moves on...

congrats! Yea, you'll get used to them. Mine always feel weird the first few days around my back teeth, almost like I can't bite down. It seems to go away after a few days.

I do find myself (finally) not thinking about them anymore! I'm sure the first couple of days after changing aligners can be tough, but after that it really isn't that bad. Trying to keep the final goal in mind!

see, it does get better! Im still grinding my teeth tho...i dont think it has hurt my aligners too bad, I cant tell anyways and neither can my dentist

The first two weeks for me were just awful. Everything since has been great in comparison.

Yes, it hurts. Yes, you lisp. Yes, you'll be chowing on Orajel for a week or so. Yes, you'll be wondering how your dentist forced you into this, and how you can make it work with your life.

But honestly, give it a month. The pain settles fast. (And your next aligners will hurt, but for a briefer period of time.) The lisp goes away. It gets better.

I wouldn't have believed that if someone had told me during the first two weeks, but it does.

I dnt feel any pain @ all it can just be a bit uncomfortable.....I have a bit of a lisp.....but its getting better!

Anyway i was told that Id be wearing these for up to a yr & a half.....but it says on the invisalign packs that this is 1 of 14 u & 1 of 16 L......I have 2wear them for 2weeks before movin on. So does that mean I will only be wearing them for 28 weeks u & 32 L?

I was wearing them for 2 weeks, now I'm down to my last couple of aligners
(9/11 upper and 9/12 lower) and my ortho wantes me to wear them for 3 weeks at a time, extending it another month for me. So your ortho may also want you to wear them longer when you get to the end. I was disappointed, but I'm sure its for the best in the long run. Good luck!

It's all going to depend on how your teeth are moving. There are some trays you may have to wear longer. My ortho says 2 weeks is just a minimum; you'd never want to go less than that, but you can go longer. ~shrug~
