Missing coverage on half of tooth....is this okay?

Hey everyone,
Just got my invisalign less than a week ago. I am doing really well with them, but I've noticed that the very last molar on my upper right side, half of that tooth has no coverage. Is this going to affect the treatment significantly? Should I tell my ortho about this? I have been bugging her so much already that I want to avoid asking her anything else...but if this is serious in the treatment, I want to know. What do you all think?

Also....how likely is it that people will need traditional braces after the invisalign?

I would tell your ortho.. maybe you aren't wearing them right, maybe they were made wrong, or maybe they were designed that way. In any case, you should know what is causing the issue.

You are paying a LOT of money to your orthodontist, there is no reason you should ever want to avoid asking her any questions. That is their job.

Ya I would ask, but in MANY orthodontic cases, the last teeth are not really used to for the major movement. The second to last are usually the ones that get the "anchors" in metal braces... so I wouldn't be shocked at all to know that your aligners are not made to work with them...

I look forward to reading your blog!

You can go here:

Braces Forums - Blogs

and start a blog to track your progress.. kind of like an online diary. Its designed to help you track your results and give others useful information on the treatment.

Likely not an issue at all. I don't have coverage on the back molar at all and half of the one next to it, but that's because those teeth don't need to move as part of my treatment. My dentist actually told me when I got my impressions that he wasn't going to bother extending them right to the back, as those teeth didn't need to move. Your ortho probably did the same thing.

Worth checking, but probably not something to worry about.
