    New invisalign user

I just got my first aligners last week and I love them. They were tight
for 3 days and now I don't even feel them. I waited way too long to get these. I wish I had done it forever ago. I'm 30 and it's already made my bite feel better and I can see that my teeth have moved in just 6 days. Crazy!!!

    Hi Misskat,

Happy to hear that you've had a positive experience with Invisalign thus far. I'm a 56 y/o man and have a consultation appt. w/ an orthodontist next week. Don't know yet if I'm a candidate for Invisalign, but I'll be interested to see what he recommends.

What sort of options were you presented with when you first saw your ortho?

    Talking new invisalign user

hello.. I just got my first tray of aligners yesterday, and I feel like ripping them out!! I know I just got them and have only had them for a day and a half, but I am wondering if you do start to get used to them and not feel them as much because I am very aware of them.

Also, its a little difficult to eat with the bumps they attatch so the aligners lock in place. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience. Thank you for your feeback!

Hi! Mike here from Rochester, NY. I'm 6 Days in so far. The 1st (2) days I did rip them out for a few hours. They drove me nuts. I actually have to remove them with a screwdriver! The dentist gave me one of his tools today to get them up over the bumps so I can get them off. Anyone elses teeth held captive?

    Invisalign

Well i am going on my 5th week and i still hate my invisaligns. I still am very aware of them being in my mouth which is what i hate more then anything!!! I can get them in and out pretty easy but i think its because i have long artificial fingernails. I only have to wear them for about 6 months though which is good because if it doesnt get any better its going to still be a long 6 months. I change to my next trays tomorrow night. I wait until i am ready to go to bed, take 4 advil and so far they havent bothered me pain wise YET. Maybe if they hurt more i would get over that feeling that i have to take them off because my teeth feel trapped!!!! Plus the very first visit they REALLY ground my teeth down ALOT to the point where they look worse with the trays out then in plus the buttons are uncomfortable too so that at least makes me put them back in. I am also wondering if anyone did invisalign express. I was under the understanding that if you got 10 or less trays on top and bottom that it was considered invisalign express and it was quite a bit cheaper. I paid $4000 and that was with a $1500 discount supposedly. I hear invisalign express is around $1500 total. I am 52 years old so maybe that is part of why i can't seem to get use to them being in my mouth.

    Sure hope that goes away.

Good luck to everyone. I know alot of people are really happy with them.

    Wink I have Invisalign Express

I am a 34 y/o female and had braces the first time around 14 years ago. When I got them taken off, I did not EVER wear my retainer and so my crowding has been coming back, not as bad as before but I definitely noticed. I started Invisalign Express at the beginning of May and had a total of 6 trays for my treatment. I am on tray 5 and so far am pretty happy w/them. It took a little while to learn how to talk w/out spitting or lisping and it is a pain to not be able to snack throughout the day, but overall I think it is worth the $$.

One thing I found out is that the orthodontist/dentist sets the prices not Invisalign. I work in NC but live in AL and the cost in NC was $5K and I ended up paying $2900 in AL. I was shocked. Shop around!

I have not had any issues w/removing the aligners. When I put a new one in, there is definite tightness, but it's not so bad that I need to take any ibuprofen. My last aligner did wear a little ulcer in the inside of my cheek, but healed after a couple of days. My orthodontist told me I could gently file away any rough spots on the aligner w/an emery board if it was bothering me.

    Overall, I'm pleased w/the experience!

    allergic to invisalign??

I am wondering if i might be allergic to the invisaligns. I have had them for 5 weeks now and cant get use to them at all. I seem to have a numbing sensation to my lips and the inside of my lips and gums where the aligners rest including my tongue. I was wondering if any one else is having problems "getting use"to their invisaligns. My teeth really havent hurt at all. This is so frustating.
    Thanks.

it could be that your aligners came out bad for your bite.. I have heard in some cases that when the ortho takes the molds, they screw it up and then the aligners are also screwed. I would have your ortho check them out to see if the aligners are not fitting right. Otherwise wait it out until you get the next set...

    Hi everyone

I'm new to braces review....I just had my molds done yesterday for Invisalign. I'm a 41 year old woman and I swear I feel like a kid waiting to go to Disney Land. Can you guys give me some insight as to how long it usually takes to get the clin check and then the trays after that?

Hello Kat, from Ruth in Essex, England. I am 50 years old, and have just started a new thread as another newbie. Please read of my experiences there. It is so nice to have just found this forum, as none of us feel so alone now. There is nothing worse than having to cope with it feeling confused/ignorant/frightened. I don't know how common Invisalign is in the UK. Also it seems a more recent thing for older people to go through. Nowadays it seems quite trendy and something to be admired. Years ago we would have been teased and ridiculed without mercy. I am fed up having to smile with my mouth closed, and so I assume are the rest of you !

Talking I'm waiting on my first set!!!!

I'm so excited reading about everyone's experiences! I'm waiting for my first aligners to come in...I'm so excited I can't stand it! I've put it off for so long...for so many reasons ( money being a big one!)- & now I can't believe it's finally happening!
People who haven't had to live as an adult with a mouth full of crooked teeth don't realize how much this means to me...I guess that's another reason I'm excited that I've found this forum.
Have many of you seen results quickly? I don't have a bite problem or an issue with my back teeth...just with my front teeth. My doctor also said he'd wait to put the "buttons" on my teeth until I got used to taking the aligners off. He said he's found that works much better with his other patients & they don't get as frustrated.
I hope everyone's getting along well with theirs!

    On Since April 2007

I've had my on since April, going on 5 months this month. First I would like to say I'm 41 and I had crooked teeth since I could remember. I have one tooth which was so crooked it looked like a tooth was missing. As of right now it filled in the spot! Yes Invisalign works, can't wait to take off my last set some time next spring. Anyone use pepsodent to clean theirs? Do you recommend it?

Thats great that it is really working out well.

For cleaning the aligners I only use Retainer Brite. It is cheap and i soak them in the warm water and solution while I eat breakfast or shower in the morning.

Without it I end up getting plaque in the aligners.

I got my first set today...

First of all- thanks for the help, Janesays!

Next- I got my alingers today! They came in early...so my ortho squeezed me in so I could get them in sooner!
Well, ouch! As soon as he snapped them on - I could feel how the tightness immediatley! He asked if the edges were too sharp, bothering me, etc. They didn't seem to at tihe time, but As the afternoon & evening goes on- it is seeming to cut into my tongue. Is this normal or not? Am I
being too sensitive? He said to let him know & he'll fix them.

I've read where everyone has a hard time taking them off at first...oh my gosh! I started to have a mini panic attack! Not only will I not be doing that around anyone (gross!)...but I don't see myself taking them out much to eat.
I work in a doctor's office where we constantly have snacks sitting around (everyone bakes!)...this is going to suck!
But I guess like everyone else has said...I have to keep telling myself it's going to be worth it!! I've waited for SO long to have straight teeth...I'm not going to find all the faults of this situation!

Does taking them in & out get easier? My ortho said in a couple days it will...but I'd like to know from those of you that are doing it right now. His brother was one of his patients, so he really got a lot of good feedback & hints from him...but I'd appreciate any advice from you all!
    Thanks for listening!!!!

    Taking Them Off

The $64,000 dollar question, taking them off? Take you thumb and the finger right next to it (I call it trigger finger) and work the VERY back of each aligner, top and bottom. Work each side one at a time until it pops off, then work the middle/front pulling down slowly. Piece of cake if you follow this. Ladies, sorry but I suggest you have really short nails. I'm not saying don't have them manicured/painted, it just make gripping them that much easier! I also found a cleaner called FRESH CLEANSE by Pepsodent. I called their 800 number and they said it's safe and works well, keeps em fresh up to 5 hours and works as a anti bacterial.

I just got my attachments put on yesterday...oh wow! This set really hurts!
It's my third set. The attachments really do make it hard to get on & off- almost not worth it to eat!
Oh well! It will be worth it....it will be worth it....it will be worth it....

having doubts if I made the right decision.

    Hello Everyone,

This is my third day of my first set of aligners. I must say I'm having a difficult time getting use to having the aligners in my mouth 24/7. I was excited the first day, but not so much now. I was really surprised by the size of the attachments. I thought that they would be a small little dot, but instead they are very large pieces of clear plasitic. guess I was just hoping for total freedom from the aligners when I had them out, but the attachments are a constant reminder and ugly looking when the aligners are out.

I have to have 22 sets for my upper and 15 for my lower.

    1 yr n a month w/invisalign

ive had invisalign since dec. 12 2006 after deciding to not deal w/the pain of continuing w/metal braces (after 2 yrs n 4 months of having them). i have 38 upper aligners and 32 lower aligners. now im on my 22nd set of aligners and i have seen more improvement now than when i had braces. i would have been probably in my 25th set if it wasnt for the fact that i had 2 have surgery to remove my tonsils so there was no way i could open my mouth to put the trays in. i should be done with the lower teeth sometime in june and the uppers will be done sometime in september. my invisalign experience so far has been relatively good. putting them on and taking them off was hard at first but now its so easy 2 pop them in and out. anyhow i think invisalign is great compared to my experience with braces which wasnt so great. anyone here almost done with the invisalign treatment?

Okay, i have been reading some of your posts and I want to reply to some of them. I dont think you are suppose to eat or drink any kind of beverage but water when you have the trays in, my dentist told me that. Also, mine are a bit irritating, but since they are moving my teeth that is to be expected, im sure metals ones are too. my dentists had to take about five molds of each set of teeth...it is very easy to mess up, there should be some discomfort, but I dont think your mouth should be numb, or your tongue. Thats just my opinion though, but I would talk to my dentist as soon as I could. It also takes about 6 to 8 weeks for the for the trays to come in, depending on when your dentist sent them off to be made. I hope i could help any

My ortho said you can drink any beverage with them in, including tea and coffee, but not to eat anything at all wearing them. Drinking won't affect the invisaligns or the progress of yoru teeth. The worst that can happen as you may stain them.

I find it really easy to pop them in and out now and I've been wearing mine almost one week. Just grab them at the back and kind of manipulate with your nails. Make sure your nails are short! And don't worry about pulling them - they won't snap.

    That's really interesting Scarlet.

Our patients are advised not to drink anything other than water. The main reasons being there's loads of acid and sugar in many drinks, and if this liquid is kept in contact with the enamel of your teeth, the results could be nasty. Also the aligners may stain, but worst, if they're left dirty, they may 'grow' film on them, and this may damage the aligner and the persons teeth.

It's important not to drink any hot liquids, as these have been shown to warp the aligners.

    Good luck with your treatment!

    Congrats!!

I'm, erm, what, about 6 weeks into the process, and I swear each new set feels way tighter than the previous one, but I'm sure that's just because I'm used to them not being tight. After a couple of days; I put them in Monday nights, and usually by Wednesday night they are feeling fine.

I have my first checkup in about a week and a half, and I'm very excited to hear what my ortho has to say!

My ortho also said - only clear liquids (read plain water) should be drank with them in. The reasoning is the same as what Sunny said. The sugars/acids get stuck between the aligner and your teeth, and without natural saliva to dissolve those acids/sugars, you can end up with tooth decay.

She didn't mention anything about hot liquids, but since she told me they should only be cleaned in cool/luke warm water, I assumed that hot water could alter the shape of them - they are plastic, after all.

Cool Newbie: On my 4th day of my 1st tray

I'm on my 4th day of invisaligns. Its a huge adjustment for me. The first 3 days were pretty painful. You feel the pressure immediately but I guess, no pain, no gain. I've gotten use to taking them out rather smoothly. I usually pop an Aleve 5 minutes before I put them back in. My second tray are suppose to have the sticky attachments. I'm dreading that but I'm sure all of this beats the traditional braces.

    That was in 2005.

Also, there is more to the process than just the trays. You have multiple office visits, x-rays, molds, etc.

Traditional (wires and such) braces are typically the same. I paid about $2800 for my sons orthodontic work, but he only had braces on his top teeth, and for less than a year. I paid over $5000 for my Invisalign, which I'll wear for almost 2 years.
