On day 3 of this journey..

Well I have begun the process towards my new smile. So far nothing to terrible except for some minor pressure every now and then when I place them back in after eating.

I'm not sure how many top and bottom aligners I have, but I do know that my Ortho said that I should very happy with the results before my wedding next December. I currently do not smile in photos because of my consciousness of my smile. I'm hoping that this will all change through the process. I am not out for the HOLLYWOOD smile, but simply the everyday not afraid to show you are enjoying yourself smile. I do thought have a few questions. Here goes.

1. I enjoy drinking beer on occasion when we are out with friends and when I watching sporting events with buddies. Is it extremely bad to not take the aligners out while I am enjoying a beer?
- So that you know I have a routine of brushing my teeth the moment that I wake up after I eat breakfast (if i eat breakfast) after lunch, and right before falling asleep. I also keep at least a bottle water with me all the time.

2. I have been very worried about my breath since I have begun the treatment. I mean as well all know the aligners themselves didn't come winter a minty smell to them. I have been normally been running over them with my toothbrush every time that I brush my teeth plus I typically let them soak in some warm water and listerine while I am eating dinner at home. Does anyone know if this is a problem? I'm not saying that my breath is bad I just want to get to that point, because at school and at work I am speaking to people on a normal basis.

Sorry for the long post.. Just thought someone on here would be able to help me out.

Talking

Sort of funny you ask... as I sit here sipping on a beer.
Yes, I drink beer with my invisaline on. After I'm done, I go brush, or if I'm not in a location I can brush, I swish.
My ortho said it's not going to hurt anything... "in fact he does it also".
I'm sure there will be some that say no but I'm not an alcoholic so it's not an issue. LOL
Cheers!

I am an Orthodontist practicing in NYC. Regarding your question of drinking with Invisalign in, it is not recommended because it causes your teeth to sit surrounded by the substance that cause decay. As long as you do rinse right after it should not present a problem.

I hope that you find this helpful.

I drink beer with them in. I also drink water at the same time. I brush as soon as I get a chance, which is usually when I get him. I figure it's better to do that and brush than to leave them out for three hours.

As for your second question; I typically brush my aligners when I brush my teeth. Usually once a day, I'll soak them in Listerine as well, and I haven't noticed any problems.

And, for how many sets you'll have; it'll say on the package the new aligners come in (you probably didn't see it for your first set because the ortho put them on, but if he/she sent you home with additional aligners it'll be on there). It'll say 2 of XX or something like that. I just put in 15 of 38, so I'm almost half way there

Like the other responses, I do drink beer with mine in but then make sure to brush ASAP aftewards.

My orthodontist discouraged me from soaking the aligners in anything. I used to wear an orthodic for my bite that I soaked in denture cleaner but they said anything you soak them in could cloud the material and make them more visible. And be careful of the water temp - you could change the shape of the aligners.

I do brush them everytime I brush my teeth, which ends up being at least 5 times a day. Like I said in another post - find some pre-pasted, disposable toothbrushes. They are the best thing ever!
