invisalign xray question......

yup im back.. has anybody whos had a successful invisalign treatment, or those who are currently in treatment that are seeing results, had to get full skull check where they put something in your ears and have an xray scanner circle around your head? im asking cus i went to another consultation ( nope still don't have my aligners) and they are now telling me that its mandatory to do this to see your full jaw. ive never had to do this with any dentist before. this is a first for me. so can somebody tell me if they had to do this before they started treatment? Im looking for people who have had a successful treatment, and didn't have to get this type of xray done.

That's called a panoramic X-ray (or Panorex). The doc probably did this X-ray to assess root health, and I'd be very disappointed in (and would run away from) any dentist or ortho who did not want to verify my roots were in good shape before starting orthodontic treatment, be it with fixed braces or Invisalign.

I start my treatment Thursday, and I have had this too - I had to bite down on something at the front and had this x-ray machine scan around my head.

I had the Xray that goes round my head done too before i made the choice between tracks and invisalign. Didnt have anything put in my ears tho. Found out i've an impacted wisdom tooth but am leaving it be as it's not causing pain and i'm not getting any treatment on the bottom arch.

Have your regular dentist keep watch on that impacted wisdom tooth - if it is growing up at an angle against the neighbouring tooth, then it is possible for it to do damage to that tooth, potentially ultimately causing you to lose it.

Thanks Zoso, I will keep a good eye on it. The way it is growing is - it has trapped my furthest back molar underneath and stopped this molar growing in and through the gum, and the Xray showed a bit of bone seems to have grown over the two of them, if I loose the tooth and wisdom tooth in time it'll not matter as such coz it's not even through. Just sounded a horrific operation to sort it out (for someone whos' never even had a filling, didnt relish the idea since its not causing pain or problems at the moment) I'm 30 is there much change if it ever moving now?

I did have that xray as well. They did a full set of films before we even discussed what potential treatments were; which of course, you are required to pay for if you decide not to go to that particular ortho. ~shrug~

Yes I have had those done. My dentist does them at every regular checkup too. Just be glad that your dentist is making sure your roots and teeth are doing ok.
