ya, that will pose a problem.. you should keep them in a retainer case if you are going to traveling and taking them in and out constantly.

When i was wearing retainers 24/7 i would always take them in the car and put them in a case if I was meeting people for lunch.. most people didnt want to see me taking them out

Fishgills, please get in touch with your dentist/ortho as soon as you can, so that you can schedule getting that attachment replaced.

Truthfully, there shouldn't be this much trouble - does your doc have a lot of experience with placing attachments for Invisalign?

Fishgills, I have lost an attachment too - was within the first 2 weeks of getting my Invisalign. I think it does happen a lot, I have been warned that this can happen.

Try to remove the aligners over the attachments, rather than pulling and it should help keep them in place

What is the purpose of attachments?

default.jpg I call my orthodontist today and told him that I lost one of my attachments.
He said not to worry about it and to call him if I lose any more.

What is the main purose of them anyway? If it dosen't matter that I lost one then why did I need to have it in the first place.

They are not my favorite part of the treatment.

I really dont understand there function!!!

I have lost 4 attachments in a 3 week period of invisalign... I lost one the day I started invisalign and then i lost 3 more when i started my second set (one fell off and 2 came loose)... wednesday i start my 3rd set so lets see how many more i lose

and the attachments are used to moving the teeth and they are important... My ortho makes me drive the hour and a half to see him to get them put back on because of how important they are. I mean I was told if they fall off about 3 or 4 days before my next scheduled appointment that it was no big deal but if they fall off in the beginning of a set or when theres no appoinments in the near future its necessary for me to see him ASAP

I cant believe he told you 'not to worry' about them! They are really important for moving the teeth, they give the aligner more grip, this could slow down the progressive movement of the teeth...

When I lost one they made me go in that day and attach another...

Fishgill the attachments are important for the moving of teeth in a specific way, that the aligners cannot do without this additional support. Since you've rung your ortho and you've been told not to worry, then it's time to trust the person you're paying to do this job. I suggest that waiting to have an attachment replaced is no different to waiting to have a bracket replaced. Sometimes these replacements are not as important as other times.

Attachments must be like brackets ... some people have none come off, others one or two, and others more. This may be due to the way your teeth and the bonding connect, or the way you put pressure on the attachment/bracket, the angle (and therefore pressure put on) the attachment/bracket ... and I'm sure many other reasons.

Please ask your ortho more questions when you see him at your next appointment, but till then ... please don't worry.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
