    Midline Issues

I am finishing up my invisalign treatment. I guess my case was pretty mild. My main concern was closing gaps. I only had a total of 10 trays. I think the gaps have closed pretty well. However, I can notice when viewing my teeth in the mirror that my midline does not align with my nose and eyes. I don't know if this is something which should have been considered when invisalign created my trays or if it should be handled with additional "adjustment" trays or if it's something which can't be fixed. My concern in my orthodontist never communicated to me that my midline would not be perfect.

To complicate matters my orthodontist left the office and I now have a new person. This new person became uncomfortable when I brought this issue up and on one occasion told me my nose was crocked and another time told me I had one check bigger than the other check. Neither looks right to me when I look in the mirror or pictures of myself.

Any thoughts on how I should proceed to find out what the truth of the matter is?

    Thanks for your time responding!!

I am due to start my invisalign and my mid line was a major topic of discussion with my ortho, my top set is perfectly in the middle but the bottom isnt. i've been told unless i get a tooth out theres nothing that can be done coz I dont have space to shift everything to the left to sort it out, and a tooth out just isnt an option for me, you dont really see my bottom teeth anyway so i'm not all that bothered but util the ortho pointed the slight difference to me I never even knew it was like that. i'm surprised it wasnt mentioned during your treatment earlier.

Good luck getting things sorted and you being happy, its such a lot of money for you not to be happy. x

Why would you need a tooth out to correct that? Surely a little teeth shaving would correct that? And since they need to do this anyway with overcrowding it wouldn't make a difference if they did more on one side than the other to balance out?

Best to speak to your ortho, but I would have thought this is something you should have raised at the outset at your ClinCheck meeting rather than when the treatment finished.

    Good luck

Correcting midlines can be very complicated, especially when you're using invisalign. Simply shaving (IPR) some enamel from a tooth (or teeth), will not mean that this enables the correction of the midlines.

Midlines are something most people know nothing about and if asked, would not know where on the body to find them. Of course when you're having orthodontic treatment, we focus so much on our teeth, that we can feel quite different about these things. The main way midlines are corrected and kept corrected is during surgery, when the jaw bones are realigned. When using braces, an orthodontist will try and get the best possible bite, and if this means the midlines do not meet totally, then so be it, as midlines are rarely seen, as most genuine smiles show only one arch of teeth.

H10130 if you're really not happy with your orthodontist, then please consult with another orthodontist (or more), until you find someone you trust. Good luck!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

    Good points

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for your thoughtful responses. As a couple of you mentioned, I really had no thought of the midline prior to treatment. My midline is mildly off center and just assumed it was part of the invisalign package to correct. I guess all I can do is seek out another ortho for their thoughts with my case files.
