Day 2 of treatment. I have questions.

    Hi guys!
I'm on my second day of treatment, and though removing my aligners are causing me a lot of anguish, I'm not really experiencing any pain.
I have a couple of questions though. Maybe some of you can help answer them for me. I've been instructed to remove my trays from the back of my mouth forward, which is where all of my buttons are. Two on each side of my mouth. I'm having a very hard time getting the aligners over the right two buttons though. I'm wondering if any of you had a problem with the buttons being too big, and were you able to get them filed down? I noticed today that I cracked the button surrouding, I guess you could call it debris, because it seems to be the only tooth that has extra substance on it. Anyhoo, that is the tooth that's been causing me all the trouble. Okay the second question is about the tool that I've seen advertised to help remove the aligners. Does this do as much damage as your fingers/nails do when you removed them with it? I've noticed that my aligners are bending forward because of the pressure I have to use to pull them off. I guess that will be all for now. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hey,

I find it difficult at first to get the aligners off within the first couple of days of each new set, after then I find out how best they come off and go back on again. You will find a way which works best for you just through trial and error - there will be an easy way to take them out, wither a side at a time, both at the same time etc. Long nails help too!

I hear you! I'm having a tough time with removing my trays too, and I lost an attachment already. I have an appointment next week to have it replaced. That was in less than 24 hours.

Most of my attachments are on my upper teeth, also in the front. I found that removing from one side (yes, starting at the back) is best for me as the attachments are fewer on this side. It still sticks and feels like it's trying to remove my teeth, but it's better.

It just seems to take practice. And then after learning it, we will have to change it again because we change our trays. I'm not looking forward to that first change.

    Welcome to the crew.

It get's easier, but yea, the first few days are tough.

I know you couldn't do this with your first set, but I highly recommend putting the new trays in at night, when you can leave them in for a solid 6-8 hours (or more, depending on your schedule) - it seems to help.

Also, not all sets of trays are the same; some will come out easy, and some not so much so. I've had them in for 8 months; I'm on tray 19 for uppers and lowers. After the first few trays, I hadn't had any problems getting them out until this set, which are very tight - I put them in Friday morning (not my choice, I had an ortho appt), and they are still tough to get out.

I did have some of my attachments rounded slightly at the edges, and made smaller; because I had some teeth that were jutting pretty far out, and it was VERY difficult to get the aligners past those attachments.

If you are having a great deal of difficulty, I'd recommend a call to the ortho, they might have some ideas.

Oh, and I wasn't able to use any tools, they just didn't seem to help much. I found a method that works (back of one side, pull them down and toward the front of my mouth) and I've stuck with it.

    Good luck!

Thanks everyone, for all the help! I actually bent the very top of my aligner to the point where it broke off. It's not effecting the actual tooth and attachment , but I think I'll call the dentist tomorrow just to make sure that's okay. The best thing is that I am now down to 2 min. max, to get them off. Now, getting them clean and back on...that's still taking me a while. I guess I'll get used to it though. Thanks again!

It took me a good week to figure out the best way to remove my aligners... I cried I was so upset with how long it took to do and how frustrated I was getting with it... I'm now 9 weeks into treatment and It takes me 5 seconds to remove them now... practice makes perfect i guess. Even new aligners only take about 30 seconds and after a day or two its back to a quick in and out

I just started on my second set of aligners. It was so easy to get them on and off, I really couldn't believe it! I'm also happy to find that I experienced no discomfort, just pressure of course, which I can deal with. It's great!

I'm just 2 weeks into my first set, and I was told to wear them for 3 (this set only). I can't wait to change them. Glad you're doing well.

Other than losing (now 3) attachments, I'm not doing too bad.

That's exactly how I felt too - like I'd made the biggest mistake of my life...

Now, I don't even think about it. And I can even remove them in a public place without anyone noticing - even my husband (unless of course they are staring at me)
