    Average number of Invisalign trays

Hi All, I've been watching the forum and completing my blog regularly and am now day 6 into tray one of Invisalign. Things are going well so far.

I thought I was quite a simple case of closing a gap at the bottom and turning and tucking one front tooth in (see pics on my blog) but I've ended up with 29 trays top and 13 bottom which was a major shock to say the least, now it's no big deal but has anyone else got as many trays as me?!

I think my ortho is in my area usualy every 3-4 weeks so maybe with a few trays I'll cut them short of the 2 weeks down to 10 days and 11 days to suit appointment times so my 58 weeks might reduce before any refinments.

Weeyin, don't reduce your time in each tray without your ortho's say-so. You might get away with it (I've known a few people who have been told that a shorter per tray interval is OK and their treatment has gone fine) but for some people even two weeks is not enough or is barely enough time. If you start cutting the time, you risk that your tooth movement will start to diverge from what is planned. If that happens, the best you can hope for is being made to wear several trays over again, but it could necessitate more extensive refinements at the end of treatment, or even a reboot part way into treatment, either of which would delay your final completion.

Oh dont worry, I wont be cutting down tray time unless I'm told to by my ortho, I will be doing exaclty as I'm told. With 29 top trays to drag the process out any longer by being silly and mucking up treatment isnt an option.

    20 top and 21 bottom.

I'm surprised you have so many trays too, judging from your blog photos my teeth are pretty crowded compared to yours but maybe our bites are different.

    Why is mine so short?
I have 19 trays and changing every 2 weeks comes to only 38 weeks which is only about 10 months.

I have a reasonable amount of movement to do , so is this too optimistic?
or do they just know that I am a toough handsome cboy that can handle it?

also is there a link with pics of people who successfully finished?

    cboy,

I was doing the same math when I got mine, but it all depends on your ortho. Mine won't make an appointment every 6 weeks. The earliest is every 7 weeks incase I'm not ready to move to my next aligner after only 2. If that is done every 3 trays, it will push my treatment end date back by a few months.

I know I'm definitely ready for tray 3 on Saturday even though tray two has only been in a week today, the bottom one is so loose i can ping it out with my tongue even with attachments. Theres no pain at all with these trays (well not now anyways, day 1&2 were a bit evil and I had to file all the sharp bits down) and now when I put it back in after lunch or dinner it doesnt feel any different as though I have movement back to where the teeth started when they're out. roll on saturday 27 trays to go, yipeeee

I think it really depends on your bite and how the teeth are moved.

my teeth are fairly crowded on top and fairly straight on the bottom but i only have 20 trays on top and 21 on the bottom.

if you're curious, you should ask your dent/ortho for an explanation.

I started with 16 top and bottom and then went into refinement with 10 top and bottom - you may want to ask your ortho about the refinement stage before you think you will be done in 10 months :)

    Hey weeyin
Is that true? Can you really ping yours out with your tongue even with the attachments? Mine are nowhere near that loose by the end- especially with the attachments, and I am fairly religious about wearing them around 22 hours a day.

Is that a common thing here? Just having a minor panic that I have stubborn teeth...

Hiya, yes Hollywoodsmile, i can ping the bottom one out easy with my tongue after about a week or so, the bottom one has no attachments on the left so i get it up at the back and lever it out with my tongue, it gets really loose. Top one I can't do it with as I've attachments both sides there. I'd not worry I dont think you're supposed to take them out with your tongue incase it snaps.

I'm 19 on top and 24 on bottom......so I'm coming to the same maths as you! Fingers crossed.....I don't really mind the refinements as long as i'm rid of the attachments!

I also don't understand why I've so 'few' trays compared to other people here....I have a fang and my front teeth are crossed. Compared to other people's photos (lemon tree your before pic look straight compared to my teeth!) I do however have quite a bit of room on my uppers as I had two teeth removed when I was younger....maybe that's the reason?

^ hehe... it may just be that some pictures of my teeth are more flattering than others.

i think your initial bite plus having room for your teeth will make a difference in your treatment time (in addition to other factors). I know in my case, I have a decent bite to begin with but my teeth don't have much room to move so they'll have to do a lot of IPR to make everything fit.

I have 9 upper and 12 lower which I just started today and have to change every 2 weeks, so by calculations I should be done by August 11. But my teeth are naturally pretty straight; people have asked for years if I've had braces already. But sadly when my wisdom teeth came in it crowded my teeth and pushed my lower front teeth out of whack:(

It's been a while since I've taken pics. I'll have to take some and post them. The change is amazing.

I had 4 teeth removed, and now you can hardly tell there is a gap there. :thumb:

Interestingly, I just started tray #7 (of 7) on the lower arch a few days ago, and they seem to be exactly where they need to be (at least from appearances). When I saw my ortho two days prior to that, he said the last tray would not be able to make the final moves so dramatically, but it has seemed to do so! Who knows?!

Either way, I am bracing (sorry!) for refinements after I finish my uppers in a few months anyway. Never thought I'd be okay with that, but now... ;)

my wife breaks my bal*s cause on my lower teef you can see how the ipr was done and has a ways to go.when she looked at my teeth on an angle, because the bottoms are still crooked and the spaces still show due to the ipr,it makes a few of my bottom teef look tiny.make sense?sometimes i think my teef look better with my trays in

My teeth DEFINITELY look better on the top when I am wearing my tray. When my attachments are removed on the lowers, they will look great without the tray!

On my upper arch, there was a lot of space made between my two front teeth in the past month or so (just with the trays - no IPR), and I could now fit a dime between them if I tried! You have to trust that those spaces and the lack of alignment will sort itself out soon. My lowers were really quite crooked, and I have been amazed at the progress in the past few trays.

Even if you are destined to have refinements, I suspect you will see more visible change soon. This "in between" stage is kind of ugly, but it will pass. I am a control freak, so this whole journey has been a very good education in patience and trust... (for both me and my husband who has to sit and listen to me analyze my progress each day)!

    Take care!

Hello all... I started my treatment on February 28th. I have 36 upper and 29 lower. Does anyone else have to wear rubberbands? I did a lot of research beforehand and I didn't know this was even an option. They are quite a pain! My dentist wants me to wear them at all times with the trays. Sometimes when I'm talking the bands will pull the top tray off! So I was only wearing them at night but he's going to have me try a thinner band. I can't wait to start my #2 tray tomorrow night!

    Only 13 1/2 months to go... :)

26 upper, 48 lower! And I'll be needing refinements without a doubt, specially for the lower arch.
That means +2 years of fun for me....
