24 hours on tray NO.1 and have a question?

Ok all is well with the first tray, will expand on it in my blog.
I have a question though. When I took them out for breakfast this morning and then again for lunch my teeth were feeling really wobbly and I was nervous to bite too much on my food. It actually feels better to have them in for some reason.
Does everyone get this feeling and does it go away once my teeth get use to the aligner? How long will that be?
I am having so much trouble getting them out also. Putting in is fine but because of the way my teeth are sitting pulling them out feels like my teeth are going to come out with it!!

Not had Invisalign myself, but I've seen people say this so many times before. And, in a similar way, a lot of people with fixed braces feel like their teeth are too wobbly if the archwire is left out for any span of time.

It's a feeling that may increase and decrease at various stages of treatment, depending how the teeth are being moved at the time. And I think most people do just get more used to it.

Don't worry - I've not heard of anyone pulling a tooth out whilst removing their trays.

Luvmekids it's necessary for teeth to loosen so that they can move, so this feeling is to be expected ... and is also a positive sign that you have movement happening.

The feel of teeth loosening, is sometimes considered a disadvantage with invisalign, as eating can feel quite strange when the teeth feel like this, but with practise (eating that is), you'll find it gets better, and often the chewing action helps the loosening teeth to feel better. The same goes for removing your aligners.

Good luck ... and keep practising!

I'd say dont worry about how you feel at the moment, its only day one or two. For me getting used to the trays was a huge deal and eating for the first week i'd say was awful. My back molars throbbed like mad and I was almost chewing with the front two as it was sore to bite down, it was easier to eat mushy things. The inside of my cheeks got sore "lines" on them not sure what it was but it took a few days to clear up and now after 3 weeks i'm getting tray 3 tomorrow and the weight I lost in weeks 1 & 2 has all gone back on (gutted hehehe).

I think as i'm nearing the end of a tray i can stand it out for a wee bit longer for a meal and when they go back in theres no pressure at all as though the teeth are happy in the new position.

I'm sure you will get used to it, its taken a while for me to get them out without a mirror but it's like 2nd nature now. I'm sure you will get used to it.

    Good luck

I am 24h on try 1 too. And it has been quite hard 24hs. I have extremely dry mouth and lips, lisp and sour teeth. I wonder whether there are any tablets to help dry mouth...

I also wonder why don't they offer mint tasted aligners?!

Your best way to combat a dry mouth and dry lips is just to drink more water. Also using a decent lip balm will help with the lips at least. I do wonder too if you have maybe been mouth-breathing as a result of not being used to the aligners - this will contribute to a dry mouth and lips (ever notice how chapped your lips get if you have a cold and your nose is all stuffed up?).

A dry mouth can lead to worse breath and/or nasty tastes, so hopefully sorting out the dryness will help with the "sour teeth". Of course, as I am quite sure you know, good hygiene is an important factor too.

There are products for people with dry mouth, but these are mostly for those who're on medications that cause this. Aquae is one product that comes in a spray and gel and works well.

Before considering using products like this, you need to make sure you're drinking plenty of water and using more lip balm than you'd usually need. Your mouth is probably trying to 'expel' the invaders ... your aligners ... and this is causing your mouth and lips to dry.

Mint aligners ... I suspect it's because there's quite a few people who don't like mint. Plus the cost would be extra, and issues re chemicals etc. Although I'm sure there would be many people wearing invisalign, who'd agree this sounds like a great idea!

Good luck with your hydration and treatment!

Thanks for quick reply Zoso and Sunny! I woke up this morning feeling my aligners are not as tight as yesterday. And when I took them off, my teeth are not that sore either. I guess the first 24hs are always the worst?

Zoso, I guess I have been mouth breathing with the aligners in, that's probably why I feel so extremely dry.

    Thanks for you help guys!

The dry mouth symptum is still there, and I really do not like the two plastic stuff in my mouth all day.... Went to a local chemist and bought Glandosane (synthetic asliva spray). Anyone used it before? It does not seem to help much though..

Honestly folks it does get better, i'd defo say the first few weeks were the worst. I had dry lips, dry mouth, got a cracker of a cut at the corner of my mouth that is taking ages to shift (vaseline overnight seems to help on my lips) and I've gone from quite a dry mouth to being a drool monster at night, not sure who's drooling more me or my 18 month old nephew who's teething!

Tray 3 is the best one yet. I'm used to the trays in my mouth - in fact I've bitten into a sandwidge by accident with them still in! The minor discomfort was gone after a nights sleep and i can get them in and out in seconds. If it wasnt for the IPR (which if you read my blog I hate) invisalign would be bliss. (remind me I said this next week if i start moaning again when in tray 4 hehehehe)

Weeeyin, Carmex is the dog's b******s for dealing with dry, cracked lips: carmex.co.uk The best one in your scenario would be the vaseline-like one in a tube.

Hi there, yes, all this is entirely normal. I was utterly convinced in my first couple of days that my teeth would come out with my aligners. 7 weeks in and I still have the sensation that my teeth feel fragile when my trays are out. I don't really expect that to go away any time soon. You will be amazed at the difference that even a week will make to how you feel about them.

I am a week in Tray 1 now. Still very dry, at times, i had to take it out every 2hs to rinse the trays with water, while I rinse my mouth to feel fresh and clean. The odour problems seems going away if I keep them in water when I took them off.
